Lieberthal Signs with Dodgers as Backstop Backup

Dodgers.com announced Mike Lieberthal has been signed to a one-year contract with a club option for a second year. Lieberthal is reported to make $1M for the year, a huge discount from his $7.5M salary last year (in which he played only 67 games but batted .273 with 9 HRs and 36 RBI). Lieberthal makes Toby Hall expendable, er, more expendable.

As psyched as I am to inexpensively acquire yet another local player who wants to play for the Dodgers, I am still blown away by the reports of the Schmidt deal. I'll exhale once it's signed, but if/when it does get signed, the Dodgers' starting rotation (as it now stands) is pretty damn impressive.
