Backstop and Table-Setter?

From Steve Henson at the L.A. Times:

Manager Grady Little said he is considering batting shortstop Rafael Furcal third in a lineup that would have new addition Juan Pierre batting leadoff, followed by catcher Russell Martin. Furcal had 15 home runs among his 56 extra-base hits and batted .346 with runners in scoring position.

Bat Martin second? That's a lot to ask of a sophomore catcher. Let's hope the sensible acquisition of a power bat will render this point moot.

Wouldn't any speed you gain from Pierre on base be negated if Martin hits him over to third, but then sits on first waiting for Furcal to hit into the double play?
