Post-Game 11 Thread: Welcome to the Majors

BREWERS 5, DODGERS 4

The Dodgers' first foray into playing teams with actual talent was a tense, sloppy affair. Both Dee Gordon and James Loney (?) were caught stealing in front of batters who ended up doubling. Matt Kemp almost made a spectacular catch on a Jonathan Lucroy triple; naturally, Lucroy scored on the next play. (Kemp later made a spectacular catch on Richie Weeks' deep fly ball in the seventh (first photo).)

Earlier that inning, Don Mattingly chose to pull Chad Billingsley, who had retired 11 straight and was at 83 pitches, for pinch hitter Adam Kennedy. Kennedy stranded Juan Uribe at second.

With the Brewers leading 3-2 in the eighth, Andre Ethier set himself up as the Dodgers' hero with a two-run go-ahead homer (second photo). But in the bottom of the ninth, Javy Guerra, clearly thrown off by pinch runner Carlos Gomez, gave up a game-winning two-RBI double to George Kottaras and the Brewers walked off.

Dodgers fall to 9-2. How will they rebound from their first real blow of the season?

Do we play the Padres again this weekend?

Please?

Snakes tied at 3

Giants winning

They'll beat themselves up over this one.

Still (tied for) best record in baseball!

This loss wouldn't feel so bad if the media didn't put so much focus on these next few games.

If they take one here and two out of three this weekend it will be a successful trip.

I like your thinking, Paul.

Damn good ball game, but the loss stings a little being we're not used to the taste of defeat.

On a positive notes, Loney is emerging from his 0-16 funk. Ethier is looking like Mr Clutch again. Bills looked great.

Well, the D-Backs just tied it up with the Pirates.

McCutchen hits an RBI-single, and the Pirates have retaken the lead.

Pirates take the lead!

Pirates win!

No lost ground, at the very least!

Taking some solace from the Angels being down 5-2 to the A's in the 9th, on Pujols bobblehead night.

Hideo Nomo said...

Uh, 5-3 now.

Angels lose.

This has to be the worst incarnation of dodgertalk in some time. Kennedy just talks about when he was a manager and Vassegh is a goon.

Neither one can lead the show. It's like listening to two color analysts trying to call a game without a Play-by-play guy.

0-1 with the new avi .i should have never changed it.

I'm a little late to the party here but have we blamed Saxy for his post earlier in the day about how easy Javy's saves are? :)

For some reason, I am not steaming about this one like I would be normally. Maybe because it felt like we nearly stole one (and have stolen a few so far this year). I;ll be fine if Cap or Harumph can get us at least one win in the series

Hideo Nomo said...

FB, I mentioned on Twitter that it was the baseball gods paying Javy back for the triple play. (Notice he got himself into the exact same jam.) I'm just glad they didn't drag their revenge out.

Fred's Brim said...

Hopefully they aren't dragging it out over multiple games either

Steve Sax said...

@FB: I am indeed to blame, I don't deny it

Fuck this. Mattingly should've put his balls on the table just like Roenicke did and bring in Elbert to face Kottaras. Javy looked like shit last night.
