The only other team in the NL West with a winning record takes on the Pirates, who are on the final leg of a currently 1-and-5 west coast swing. For Kirk Gibson's club, these are the games they need to win (and the Dodgers did). If Pittsburgh can take a game or two, they'll be adding some welcome insurance for a day when Matt Kemp's OPS drops below 1.500. Perish the thought!
Another match-up to keep an eye on is the Phillies and Giants, who are starting a 3-game set in San Francisco. Both teams are are 4-5, so, tragically, one of the two must come away at least .500. It's not too late to hope for a sinkhole to open up under the big phone booth, though.

The pitching staff better stop slacking if they are going to measure up to the bats in this lineup.
We know Josh will be pulling for his Giants tonight!
Yeah. Glad we banned him.
If both teams are 4-5 and one team wins all three games, though, doesn't one team become 7-5 and the other 4-8? I'm confused.
@Sax
I mean that at least one team will exit the series without a losing record. At minimum, If they go 2-1, the winner will be 6-6, and the loser will be 5-7.
I suppose the glass-half-full way of looking at it is that one of them is guaranteed to have a losing record after 3 games, as well.
The ideal of course, is the both teams win no games under any circumstances. But alas, they must play each other.
Edited for Sax's clarity.
Giants down 2-0 in the first
Giants down 2-0 in the first
@Stubbs 4:40p: Sorry for the confusion, glad I dragged you down into my hole of pessimism
Yeah Josh was banned around the same time Mr. C was deported back to Turkmenistan.
Lower yer ERA Timmah!! Or don't.
Timmeh looking good!!!
Not.
LOL at the Pads beating up on the Rox.
I swear to God, I almost went for that same joke about Mr. C, Paul. It was going to be Burkina Faso, but tomayto/tomahto.
We have been cyber boozin together for too long Stubbs.
Giants just nailed Palanco. Fight fight fight!!! Come on I want to see some lengthy suspensions.
Look like a total accidental beaming but the Phillies are the kind of Dutch bags that would take it personally.
I was JUST thinking about your use of Dutch bag about ten minutes ago while I was brushing my teeth. Weird, I know. Then I scrolled over to this thread and saw you had resurrected it, Paul. Uncanny!
Cyber Boozin was my favorite Flaming Menudos album.
They are showing Barry Zito and Matt Cain on stage with Train. I don't know if I am gonna puke cause I am laughing so hard or laugh cause I am puking so hard.
Giants are losers. Another good night.
Just watched the Gnats lose. You know there's Hate when I'm getting all worked up rooting for a Phillie.
Timmeh stinking it up still. Apparently his velocity is down 8-9 MPH.
Yeah Dusty. He was constantly hanging around the mid 80s. He had better movement tonight than his first two starts. But I would still say he needs to wash his hair.
Flaming Menudos took that album name from an arrest warrant issued for Coco Loco once. Who knew that was a crime? IBM has no sense of humor.
I can see the old man scouts sitting around the bowels of the Gnats' stadium, talking re Timmeh. Like in Moneyball.
"That kid needs a haircut. It's bringing his velocity down."
"At least he needs to wash his hair, that hippy."
C. Loc was a victim of cyracial profiling.
Surfing While Brown
Too much weed timmeh
don't look now but another team is just as hot as the Dodgers.
