Post-Game 91 Thread: Dodgers Win, Give Buck And McCarver 26 Outs Of Broadcast Hell

DODGERS 1, PADRES 0

The Dodgers were pathetic and sad for most of this game, getting no-hit by the awful San Diego Padres through 26 outs. Lucky for them, Rubby De La Rosa, Matt Guerrier, Mike MacDougal, and Blake Hawksworth combined to hold the Padres to only one hit, wriggling out of threats along the way. Unlucky for Fox national broadcasters Joe Buck and Tim "Real Man" McCarver, they had to call a thoroughly awful game with an absent crowd, oppressive heat, and lacking offense (on both teams' behalf).

Enter .208 batter Juan Uribe as the 27th out and the only thing keeping the Padres from the 10th inning. But Padre pitcher Luke Gregerson serves up a double to left to Uribe. Hmm. So enter .171 batter Dioner Navarro as the 27th out and the only thing keeping the Padres from the 10th inning. But Dioner hits a walkoff single to the gap in right-center and THAT'S ALL SHE WROTE!

Dodgers win, keeping their lowly two hits until the very last at bats. Padres miss out on the opportunity to leave the Mets as the only team to have not thrown a no-hitter. Three in a row, baby!

Awesome! Party currently being made. Sorry I missed the GT. Having a cocktail or 3 at the Grand Californian bar at Disney's California Adventure. My barstool is now the happiest place on earth!

Ps- shame for the boycott post! Don't feed the beast!

I've been keepin track of all the baseball caps I have seen today here at Disneyland. Currently have seen all but Astros, Twins, and Rockies.

Party being made despite this entirely made up post about a walk off win in the 27th out. Come on, this team could never pull that off. Right? Right?!?!

Thank goodness I benched Josh.

Sorry I was ineffective at the lessors spot. I'll try fewer run-up slap bunt thingies.

Hey Dusty, how's the new Mermaid ride?

Dammit Dusty!
You're playing in my backyard!

I just got home from daughter #2's basketball game.

Hey Dusty,
Look up Anaheim Brewery on yer fancy smartass phone. You're close to it, and they're open until 9. Try the 1888 Lager. Worth the trip and $5 a pint.

That's Dodger baseball baby, you all are spoiled by the steroid generation. How quickly we forget that after failing inning after inning leaving RISP, we got the run when we needed it.
Dodger baseball is pitching. How quickly we forget that three young, home grown pitchers just pitched three shut out games.

Padres are freaking awful.

Fernie V said...

I get that but so are we

I was thinking how cool it would be to see our young top 3 in a five game series. Still need some pop or clutch in the lineup or pop the clutch on this clunker.

Rbnlaw: not to knock the OC, but what kind of brewery closes at 9p?

Steve Sax said...

@Fernie V: I'd feel better about beating a team 2x with a 1-0 win if it wasn't the Padres we were playing.

At Sax re Mermaid ride:

It was awful. Disntnhave to stand in line for it since we started there. Glad I didn't wait more than 5 minutes for it. Not well done at all.

I'm getting a little chapped with the media running with this "Dodgers were almost no-hit" business. If I'm not mistaken, the Padres hadn't scored and the Dodgers would have had at least the 10th and maybe more to get a hit. Gurnick was particularly egregious:

"Being no-hit and down to their last out with none on in the bottom of the ninth..."

Last out?

The more I look at the picture, the more it looks like the team was trying to pull Dinner to his feet....

Kyle Baker said...

As if Pod Rays had just poured on the hits the whole game.

Steve Sax said...

Agreed on the no-hitness. If Uribe or Dinner had folded, it just would've meant extra baseball. Now they probably would have been no-hit in extras too, but that's another story.

Dusty: I saw a YouTube video of the Mermaid ride and it looked okay, but I was surprised that right after the Ursula room, there was the end of the ride. What about the whole second half of the movie?!

The media is fucked up, if it would of been a Yankee/red sox game, It would of been a pitchers duel. "Watch him get out of the trouble, now that is a sign if a great pitcher."
