Game 9 Thread: April 9 @ Diamondbacks. 12.40p

Hiroki Kuroda (1-0) vs. Micah Owings (1-0)

COMMENTS: The Dodgers drop their first series of the season despite Matt Kemp finally breaking out (3-for-5 with a triple). Andruw Jones looked positiviely anemic in his 0-for-3 show (batting .103 on the season), which was fitting as cancer patient Doug Davis mowed us down yesterday night. That's right, the Dodgers lost to a cancer patient. This afternoon, Micah Owings will pitch on crutches and with bound feet, just to make it a challenge.

whats the over/under on hr's owings hits today?

Steve Sax said...

The over/under formica? I don't know, damon, but I wouldn't take his pitching for granite. Butcher block out some this afternoon to watch the game. Ceramic-able as Owings might be, I wood bet he'll be nothing but serious on the mound today as he looks for the sweep.

Those are materially bad puns.

Raffy HBP.

Steve Sax said...

Raffy was hit by a pitch on an 0-2 count as well. With Kemp up next, I hope Kemp strokes one irrespective of if Raffy steals (and Owings is clearly preoccupied by the man on first).

Steve Sax said...

It's nice to see Kemp get his groove back. And, Andre is still batting okay (he missed a game-tying HR last night by inches).

So who is that .067 batter down in the eight hole?

Oh, yeah. Ugh.

Steve Sax said...

Man, I love commenting from work.

Anonymous said...

Ethier is making so much contact. He's just hitting it right at people.

Anonymous said...

Great, 2 more MFLOB.

Steve Sax said...

yeah, but that's what Torre said to justify Pierre's start yesterday...

Steve Sax said...

Are you f'n kidding me, men on first and second with no outs and 3-4-5 up the plate, and they all choke. Where is Mattingly when you need him?

Anonymous said...

Help us, Hiroki Kuroda. You're our only hope!

Steve Sax said...

efficient inning by kuroda, nice.

Anonymous said...

JP says I'll hit it in the air if I want to!

Alex Cora said...

Pierre with more power than Jones!!!

Anonymous said...

Ethier with the deep double. Finally!

Anonymous said...

Damn, we are tagging the ball but all for fly-ball lineouts!

Anonymous said...

Are we looking at an Ethier-Pierre-Kemp outfield? Pierre with his second hit today.

Anonymous said...

Great time for the IF to fuck up. D'backs have men on 1st & 3rd w/no out.

Anonymous said...

Great, Kuroda hits Jackson to load the bases. And guess who's up? Mark "I Have More HRs Than the Entire Dodgers Team" Reynolds.

Anonymous said...

Sweet defensive plays by DeWitt and Martin & Kuroda leave us tied at 1-1 with a man on 3rd with 2 out.

Anonymous said...

Shit. Upton RBI, 2-1 D'backs.

Anonymous said...

Kuroda's wobbling. Men on 1st & 3rd now.

Anonymous said...

Backwards K on Owings with the bases loaded! 2-1 D'backs, and we're lucky it's that close.

Anonymous said...

Kemp & Ethier get Furcal home! 2-2.

Anonymous said...

Kuroda with the inning-ending K!

Anonymous said...

"And a little child shall lead them." Ha ha, Vin!

LONEY HOMER! LONEY HOMER!

karina said...

go king james!

Anonymous said...

Russell needs to swing now and then.

Anonymous said...

"King James," I like it!

Anonymous said...

Okay Juan, get on base so we can get the pitcher out of the way.

Anonymous said...

Kuroda first-pitch strikes to 19 of 23 batters. Love it.

Anonymous said...

Dammit, D'backs are chipping guys on. Bunt + tentative swing single = men on 1st & 2nd w/1 out. Kuroda's at 94 pitches.

Anonymous said...

It's true, Owings has a sweet swing.

Anonymous said...

2-2 count on Owings. Put him away, Kuroda!

Anonymous said...

Gettin' squeezed!

Anonymous said...

Torre staying with Kuroda here.

Anonymous said...

2-2 count on C. Young. This next pitch is verrry important....

Anonymous said...

Popup! One more to go.

Anonymous said...

Dammit, base hit. 4-3 D'backs.

Greg Brock said...

James Loney is lookin' like me. Steve-O never would have hit that ball out.

Anonymous said...

It's true, it's true. Time to find out if this team has balls!

Anonymous said...

"Andruw Jones is not a threat to steal." Truer words have never been spoken.

Anonymous said...

Dammit, Kemp swinging at the high heat again! Word is getting out on him.

Alex Cora said...

More like "Andruw Jones is not a threat, period."

Alex Cora said...

Or Andruw Jones was not a steal for the dodgers.

Anonymous said...

Chan Ho with the catlike quickness on the bunt attempt!

Anonymous said...

Augie Ojeda is killing us.

Anonymous said...

Chan Ho gets Robby "Banana" Hammock to end the seventh.

Anonymous said...

Time to feast on middle relief!

Steve Sax said...

King James works his 2-2 count back to a walk. Way to go, FJL.

Anonymous said...

Martin hits into an inning-ending DP.

Steve Sax said...

RUSSELL MARTIN SUCKS at this stage, he is batting 60 points worse than even Juan Pierre! Nice inning-ending DP, Russell.

Martin and Jones are competing for "suckiest Dodger in early 2008." It's a close race.

Anonymous said...

The 2008 Dodgers have been decidedly unclutch.

Anonymous said...

Damn Eric Byrnes and his youthful exuberance!

Steve Sax said...

Well, at least Russ can still throw 'em out.

Steve Sax said...

oh, it was a pitchout. In that case, rescind my Russ comment, and also rescind Orel's damning of Byrnes' youthful exuberance.

Steve Sax said...

Joyce had an 3-0 count and then had two called strikes. He better make it to first.

Steve Sax said...

All up to Andruw with two out in the ninth. We know how this story ends.

Welcome to $100M-Payroll Mediocresville. Population: Dodgers

Steve Sax said...

Yay, Jones strikes out swinging to end the game. Glad we've made him the highest-paid Dodger ever, with his .129 average.

Dodgers swept. I guess if you're going to lose the series, lose big. We drop below .500.

Alex Cora said...

Funny I was watching the game on MLB.com with Jones up at the end, before the last pitch, in the corner of the screen popped up "box score / gameday" - even mlb.com knew the game was over before the last pitch. So sad. Dodgers need help.

karina said...

we need some good ol' clutch...

Anonymous said...

We need more clutch than a junkyard full of Pintos! Ha ha!
