Game 26 Thread: April 29 @ Marlins, 4p

Derek Lowe (2-1) vs. Andrew Miller (1-2).

COMMENTS: "Right now, the goal is .500," said Joe Torre nine days ago, when the Dodgers were 7-11 and in last place. Gentlemen, the goal is reachable today. In fact, the Dodgers could escape April with a winning record—but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Derek Lowe and his tight elbow start for the Dodgers; Andrew Miller, a key component in Florida's trade of Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit, starts for the Marlins. So while we remain on alert for the dreaded green pitcher effect, we also remember this is a newly ballsy Dodger team (although we must wait one more day for Andruw Jones to show up).

Epale, sports fans! The lineup:

Furcal, SS
Ethier, LF
Kemp, RF
Kent, 2B
Martin, C
Loney, 1B
Jones, CF
DeWitt, 3B
Lowe, P

Apparently Joe Torre didn't get the memo about Andruw.

For you gamers out there, GTAIV sounds AMAZING. Wish I had the time to play it!

Steve Sax said...

Everybody is giving rave reviews to GTA4. May have to go fire up the 360 and get me one.

Eric Karros said...

Hey dudes...I will be in and out during today's game

Alex Cora said...

Good - get to watch the game tonight. Bad - have to listen to the Florida Marlins feed.

Alex Cora said...

Does anyone think that Torre leaves Furcal at the top, DeWitt at the bottom, Kent in clean up, then takes all the other names, writes them on a piece of paper and throws them up in the air, and the order that they land is the order that they hit in the lineup.

Eric Karros said...

Listening to the Marlin feed is better than being marlin feed. It's also better than being relegated to Gameday.

Orel said...

Torre gets 30-40 games to learn his players. After that I expect to see more consistency in the lineups.

Alex Cora said...

Opps, forgot the ugly - Andruw Jones batting average.

Orel said...

Two consecutive one-out singles! They say you have to get to Miller early, so this is good.

Eric Karros said...

Hey Orel -

Orel said...

Russell Martin drives in Andre Ethier!

Eric Karros said...

10-run 1st inning, baby!

Alex Cora said...

Woohoo!!! We score! Dodgers 1-0 on a slow single by Martin. I hope Jones isn't Marlin feed tonight.

Eric Karros said...

Well, not quite 10 runs, but I'll take 1

Eric Karros said...

Hey AC, how are you getting the Marlin feed?

Alex Cora said...

Wow, Martin gunned him down, Ramirez had a BIG jump on that steal.

Orel said...

Nice throw by Russell to nail Ramirez attempting to steal.

Orel said...

1-2-3 for Lowe!

Eric Karros said...

Wow, Martin gunned him down, Rameriz had a BIG jump on that steal.

Eric Karros said...

Orel, what's your high-score on typeracer?

Alex Cora said...

I ponied up 20 bucks for mlb.com. I must say it is pretty good. About 30 sec to 1 min delay, but the picture is great. This is my 3rd year of subscribing and I am pleased with it.

Orel said...

Cantu can't field! Andruw gets on but doesn't get a hit.

Orel said...

Scratch that—they scored it a hit. Watch that BA skyrocket!

Eric Karros said...

Cool AC. That'll be the first thing I get when my 401k hits $20.

Orel said...

You mean high wpm? Probably the one in the screenshot: 94.

Eric Karros said...

Andruw isn't supposed to go off until tomorrow

Orel said...

Florida isn't playing like a first-place team. Lowe bloops a single.

Eric Karros said...

if we are on typeracer at the same time, can we compete against one another?

Alex Cora said...

hey Luis Gonzalez is out there for the Marlins. Wondering if he is still pissed at the young guys.

Orel said...

Furcal doubles, men on 2nd & 3rd. Ethier walks, bases loaded w/2 out for Kemp.

Orel said...

Base hit! 3-0 Dodgers.

Alex Cora said...

Marlins announcers bagging on Jones saying Juan Pierre (or "JP") has twice as many RBI's as Andruw Jones. Ouch.

Alex Cora said...

Kemp seems comfortable in that 3rd position in the lineup.

Orel said...

Double steal!

Orel said...

Kent singles! 5-0! Whoo-hoo!

Eric Karros said...

Check this out: Kemp and Ethier now have identical season stats: 0.313 avg, 2 HR, and 13 RBI.

Orel said...

From TypeRacer: "Coming soon: Facebook application and private game rooms with chat - race your friends live!"

Eric Karros said...

Miller is Dodger feed tonight

Alex Cora said...

The Kemp and Kent combination is an RBI machine!

Orel said...

Broxton unavailable tonight.

Alex Cora said...

Its not Miller time (especially with all the Budweiser ads in the stadium).

Erin said...

Can't stick around (going to see an advanced screening of Ironman. Jealous?), but I just wanted to say this...

the losing Dodger team of weeks past had chances like this to break games open and take advantage of weaker (or younger) pitchers. They didn't do it. But this team is doing it. And that's nice to see.

Eric Karros said...

ok fellow Sons, I have to check out for awhile, I'll be back in a bit. Dodgers better still be ahead.

Orel said...

Charlie is reporting Jason Schmidt threw 78 pitches in his latest bullpen session.

Eric Karros said...

Hi and bye Erin. Yes, I'm jealous.

Orel said...

Yes, jealous! We want a review!

Alex Cora said...

Damn erin - that is sweet! That movie looks pretty good, as well as the other comic book movies - Batman, Hulk...

Orel said...

Revenge of Gonzo: He drives in Cantu. 5-1 Dodgers.

Orel said...

Nice job of Loney to get the lead runner. 1 out.

Alex Cora said...

So much of rhte shutout - and to be broken by a former dodger (that is batting better than Jones - did I say that already???).

Orel said...

Lowe K's Helms. Steve Lyons is noting Lowe has a funny hip pull on his follow-through.

Alex Cora said...

Nice another run and a wild picth.

Alex Cora said...

Wow, not bad range by the 40 year old 2nd baseman Kent.

Orel said...

6-2 Dodgers. We have knocked out Miller after 3 innings.

Orel said...

Kemp grounds into 5-4-3 DP.

Alex Cora said...

Curious that the Marlins kept Miller in the hit, but then pulled him the next inning for a new pitcher. They must be hurting on the bench (no pun intended).

Orel said...

Lowe's getting wobbly—Marlins have men on 1st & 3rd w/0 out.

Orel said...

Sac fly. 6-3 Dodgers.

Alex Cora said...

maybe Jones couldn't catch that because of the extra 10 lbs he has. There are some Marlin fans chanting "An - Druw, An - Druw."

Orel said...

6-4-3 DP gets us out with no further damage!

Orel said...

Andruw just misses hitting it out!

Alex Cora said...

Honestly, I thought Jones hit that one out. Instead flies out to Gonzo. It is becoming CLEAR-er that he is getting CREAM-ed out there...

Orel said...

Sneaky, AC!

Orel said...

E-3. Sloppy, Loney.

Alex Cora said...

uh oh, Lowe in trouble again. Men on 2nd and 3rd for the Fish. 2 out.

Orel said...

And OF COURSE Lowe is rattled. Double + E = 2 runs in and a man on 3rd. 6-5 Dodgers.

Orel said...

Lowe goes 2-0 on the next batter.

Alex Cora said...

Ouch, that hurt, Marlins only down by one.

Orel said...

Old friend Gonzo gets us out of the inning.

Alex Cora said...

Damn, is this why the Marlins are in 1st place?

Steve Sax said...

Orel, you are WAY ahead of Gameday. I'm going to go to the car.

Tie game? Lowe got his six run pad, so he can't complain about lack of run support...

Orel said...

It's raining but they're playing through.

Steve Sax said...

Gonzo is still 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a RBI.

Alex Cora said...

Looks like Lowe sits, and Young is the professional hitter with a basehit - does he need some time at 3rd?

Steve Sax said...

Hmm, Delwyn Young singles in a PH attempt. Sounds to me like Mark Sweeney may want to update his resume.

Alex Cora said...

Wow, nice catch by Uggla.

Steve Sax said...

Dammit, Andre! Fly out to end the Dodgers' sixth.

Eric Karros said...

6-6? What?

Eric Karros said...

I thought I was clear that the Dodgers better still be ahead when I get back.

Eric Karros said...

If they still win this one we know their chutzpah is for real

Steve Sax said...

Oh, this looks bad. Bottom of the seventh after we go down meekly in the top of the frame.

Steve Sax said...

Way to go Martin, way to throw out the runner.

Now if Proctor could only find the strike zone...

Alex Cora said...

Can Beimel get out of this inning????

Alex Cora said...

Woohoo! Nice hold by Beimel. Dodgers need to start scoring again.

Steve Sax said...

Beimel escapes the eighth after a leadoff single!

Rick Monday mentioned the score at 6.34p, and theb again at the end of the inning at 6.39p. Thanks, Rick.

Steve Sax said...

Come on Matty, with Andre on first you've gotta slam that ball!

Alex Cora said...

Come on kemp - full count!

Alex Cora said...

well at least it wasn't a dp.

Alex Cora said...

Kent is a RBI machine!!! Nice slide by Ethier dodgers up 7-6.

Eric Karros said...

Chutzpah, baby!

Alex Cora said...

Ok Sammy, here is your chance!

Steve Sax said...

Okay, I gotta give Monday props, he called that Kent RBI well. "Is there a history? Kent is 1-for-5 against Gregg (BAM!), make that 2-for-6 as Kent hits it into centerfield!". Pretty seamless delivery.

Steve Sax said...

Saito's got two out and is dealing...

Alex Cora said...

One more to go!!!

Alex Cora said...

Great - Monday can add!!!

Steve Sax said...

Sammy with another K! Sounds like Saito is back!

Dodgers win, 7-6! Four in a row!

Alex Cora said...

Strikeout - that backdoor slider is deadly! Great job blue! Dodgers win!

Steve Sax said...

The Dodgers are amazingly back at .500, at 13-13.

Alex Cora said...

Sorry just want to post one more time to get us to 100 comments. No more free tacos (for you Laker fans). Also, just watched Conner Jackson belt a 2 run homer against the Astros to tie the game in the 1st inning.
