GIANTS 4, DODGERS 0
Stick a fork in this season, folks. We're done. Yeah, we'll play another few games that are competitive and exciting, but we're just not on the right side of the division and even the wild card will be rough. Injuries have devastated the bullpen, Kemp's shoulder is scarily frayed, the rotation only consists of about two and a half pitchers, and the Noffense just can't get it going. If this is April or May, it's fixable. But it's mid-September. Let's count the ways our team and franchise is better off than it was even at the beginning of the year, and be done with it. EVEN if we are able to scoot into a wild card slot, as Orel pointed out in the GT, do we really want to embarrass ourselves against teams that are set up to make a run deep into the playoffs? I sure don't.
Thanks for participating, lads; enjoy some good fishing. I hope I'm wrong, and many will then rightfully mock my proclamation.
But I'm not.

the more the pessimism, the better my seat will be, ok?
no, seriously, you can write off the season 'till it's mathematically impossible to reach the playoffs.
We need good vibes!
@K
HAH! Fair enough.
That's a wrap.
Did I get us banned yet?
We can't even play spoiler.
Why is one of my eyebrows missing?
I need another Cadillac.
At this rate, Karina will be sitting in the dugout.
Karina will be playing LF!
being the pessimist I am, I have no choice but to completely agree with you. just gonna go ahead, tune out, and look forward to watching the Giants get swept in the NLDS.
Shane is bad. His heart is not in it since he knows he's gone at the end of the year. He seems like a guy who wants to be comfortable rather than be put in a situation in which he is fighting for a contract. If don needs to play him, drop him done and put Cruz in the 2 hole.
Hollandsworth! Another Dodger ROY represented on SoSG!
indeed. long time reader, first time poster, so i tried to find a topical name.
that being said, the lackadaisical performance today was depressing to watch. like someone said in the GT, "Even if Kershaw was pitching, we still would have lost."
Playoffs!
Exactly Hollandsworth. We would have lost 1-0 or something like that.
Misery does love company. Welcome, Hollandsworth!
wow, this warm welcome is awesome. thanks, guys! it almost takes the jagged, needle-like memory of the game out of my mind.
but not quite.
That's what Scotch is for.
And then when we win, it's time to -- drink Scotch!
heh, being the featherweight that i am, I'd probably end up forgetting the ENTIRE season on accident!
*beat, reaches for Bushmills*
I entirely blocked out the 1999 season.
LOL don't worry, Dusty. i'd like to block out the drafting of Victorino, too...
Just take the sticks out of your asses and play loose. Have some fun. If you get a WC spot, great. If not, I look forward to everyone getting healthy and the new ownership having a full offseason to go nuts.
From the LA Times:
<< Kemp didn't take batting practice before the Dodgers' 4-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, but he played catch.
"I pray to God I'll be back," he said. >>
That does not fill me with confidence.
I vote for Hollandsworth to be the next future Son. *cries*
I was always suspicious about this pen, then Bills went down, at that point i figured it was pointless if not over. Jansen + Kemp + Kershaw....yikes, even if the offense gets going it won't be enough. Thanks Neddie for bringing back Kuroda....i hope you get shitcanned in the offseason. Hope they sign Greinke.
And about the vibes, maybe if we were actually on the team or in the clubhouse, but we aren't so it doesn't really matter if they're "Good" or "bad"
Shit i still have a voucher to redeem to go to one more game!
NTM the defending champs deserve that final spot and should get it.
Go A's! Go O's! Go Nats!
Shit, might as well just shut Kemp and Kershaw down.
Dudes. We're not even close to done yet. Maybe we don't win the division, but we're only 1.5 games out of the playoffs with 21 to play. That's *nothing*.
Even with the latest injuries, we've got a much stronger lineup than we had earlier in the season when we were trotting out a glorified AAA team. Sure we've struggled lately, but I can just as easily see this team turn it around and start scoring 7 or 8 runs a game with the lineup we have. We could be back in wild card position by midweek. I'm not saying we're going to do it, but close races like this are what it is all about, and it makes no sense to bow out now.
All we need to do is get in, and then anything can happen. And if we do it against some adversity like we've seen this season, it will be all the more sweet. Just ask the LA Kings.
Ubragg=puzzle Master and voice of reason.
I'm with ubragg. If we can just pitch a little, we have a shot. The hitting will come around when they don't feel the pressure of having to play catch up every single game. I don't like our schedule but we get St Louis for 3 and the Pirates are the Pirates. You know it's strange when I am one of the least pessimistic of us.
What the hell have you been drinking, FB? Water?
To put a more pessimistic angle to it, going on about only being 1.5 out of the WC leaves out the fact that if you take away the second WC slot that was put in this season, we're 7 games back of the nearest WC team (Atlanta). I say that for perspective; clearly we still have a shot at the second WC slot. But if there wasn't that second WC slot, we'd all be moaning about how shitty we were and have no shot at catching ATL. That tells us about the strength of our team and how we're playing down the stretch more than the "mere 1.5 games back" storyline does. Which was really my overall point; even if we do back into the second slot, how good can we really be with Bills out, Kershaw ailing, Kemp a big question mark whether he's playing or not, decimated bullpen, Noffense, etc.
Booooze. Fancy booze, cheap booze, artisan booze, mass produced booze.
Oh I agree with SOSG Lasorda, Dodgers can still turn it around. Just look at the Cards last year. Of course we need to hit Victorino. I see dead people.
Reporting from somewhere near a winery just south of Portland. Free my liver!
I'm callign this one right now, Colletti signs The Beard this offseason.
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/09/olney-on-upton-young-wilson.html
Bringing in Wilson would not just be a kick in a the nads, but a chops your nads off then feed them to you one by one.
Why do you hate us, John?
John G hates America.
It should be noted John called Pujols to Anaheim.
If Colletti signs Wilson, we get to shave Colletti's head
