SoSG Fest III: The Aftermath Edition
I'm frankly shocked that anyone had the wherewithal to post a game thread given the mayhem that ensued at yesterday's SoSG Fest. Many of us in attendance yesterday likely woke up and said, "Wait, the Dodgers actually won a game?" For the record, the Dodgers are now 2-1 on SoSG Fest days. Pictures - at least those that are suitable for publication - to follow.
Today we take on the Pumpkins in the rubber match of the weekend series, but more importantly, it's an opportunity to make up more ground on the Hated Ones. We currently stand 4.5 games out of first, and half a game out of the wild card. Every game feels like a playoff game, and is, really. Put your seat belts on, kids, because this going to be a bumpy ride the rest of the season.
One more note for the file: overwhelming consensus based on a decidedly unscientific poll at yesterday's SoSG Fest said the Dodgers would NOT make the playoffs. Nomo was the only Son to think that we would. Pessimism - or realism? cc: Karina
UPDATE: Kershaw is a late scratch with what is initially being reported as a hip issue. (cries)
MORE CONCRETE INFO RE KERSHAW, per Ken Gurnick: "Kershaw has a sore hip that received a cortisone injection Saturday. He might start Tuesday. Joe Blanton was told Saturday he might start."

Also, Brewers just tied the Cards with 2 out in the 9th.
I also said we'd make the playoffs, too
That's terrible news you bring, KK!
You did, Sax? Hmmm, I misremembered. I know Nomo did, but I chalked it up to his wanting to be different than the rest of the crowd. I chalk your positivity to your drunkenness, then.
Sax was the one taking the poll, I think. When I said yes, he said "YEEAAH!" That counts.
Different from the crowd? Hell no. I think we are making the playoffs.
Today's news isn't helping my cause, though.
@Nomo
I meant different from everyone else in the room (excepting a drunken Sax), who was saying "Whatchu talkin' 'bout are you cray?"
Per Gurnick"
"Kershaw has a sore hip that received a cortisone injection Saturday. He might start Tuesday. Joe Blanton was told Saturday he might start."
GT updated with disturbing Kershaw news.
Thanks to Nic and KempKershaw for the heads up
this season is so stupid. I really hope there is a nice payoff for all of this horseshit but something tells me there is at least one more nutshot to come.
So who won the Most Drunk Award? Was it Sax or did Orel earn it with his table-tackling?
"this season is so stupid."
That's some excellent analysis, FB. Just can't get that from the mainstream sports media.
I'm thinking Stubbs and I were pretty damn near as to' up as anyone else.
Nomo ended the day with a giant Cadillac, so he was my hero. ALthough I turned around and did the same thing, along with the Jamesons and then Centenario tequila.
They just don't have the guts to say it. You can't take stances like that without risking advertising dollars and alienating long-time readers or viewers
M Ellis 2B
Victorino CF
Gonzalez 1B
Ramirez SS
Cruz 3B
Ethier RF
Rivera LF
AJ Ellis C
Blanton P
Ouch. On so many levels.
Also, I remember someone taking a picture of my crotch, but not precisely why.
(Other than the obvious)
Cruz in front of Ethier?
Not that Donnie goes by statistics, but is there any real value to switching righties and lefties in the lineup? It reduces the value of the other team's LOOGY but past that?
Whatever momentum we had going into today: stopped dead by the Kershaw news. Wonder if it's related to his Planters fasciitis?
@Stubbs - will that pic be used for a future puzzle?
If someone has that pic, we'll post it!
Cards, Braves win. Bucs lose.
Yankees crush the O's.
If Kershaw misses more than this start, I am ready to declare the season over.
It was Double D, if I'm not mistaken
Wait, Double D took a pic of Stubbs' crotch?
DelinO, if you read this blog, please send a pic of the aforementioned.
@Dusty: I've reposted your request over on the Coco B Ware blogs. That should get a quick response
More on CK, per David Vass(however you spell his name):
"Kershaw started to feel discomfort in his right hip on Friday. MRI yesterday showed inflammation and he will be on anti inflammatory"
epale everyone!
Dusty, that's pessimism. They'll make the playoffs in a BUMPY ride.
and since it will be a "I told you so" situation, YOU GUYS will take me to first postseason game at Dodger Stadium.
just kidding :)
@K
Ok, you're on.
@Dusty, assuming you were the last man standing at SoSG Fest III, did you make sure Neeebs wasn't still asleep under the prize table?
DelinO: The Crotchshot Collector?!
The Bone(er) Collector?
Good fake Ned Colletti tweet:
"#Dodgers already down 1-0 after Joe Blanton gives up a home run while warming up in the bullpen. "
just 1-0? I'll take it
At least it wasn't the first inning.
Oh that's cute. They gave out little orange rally towels to Gnats fans for tonight's game.
Just when I was going to say how hard it must be to see the ball with these shadows... mEllis with a leadoff double!
Victorino already 0-2, what a surprise
How will we squander the lead-off double?
Victorino royally sucks.
SoSG posts from the past:
Oct. 23, 2006
"Resign Nomar?
Ok, Nomar's contract is up. Had a great first half of the season, but the injury bug continued to hamper him after the All-Star break. Of course, he did come up with some HUGE hits down the stretch (which by the way is what he needs to do more of in the off season - stretch, man, stretch!). Is Loney a good enough replacement? Or do we go after Soriano for 2nd base, and switch Kent to 1st?" - SoSG AC
Victorino is already 0-2 and he's only been up to bat once.
Shane with the Elvis sunglasses
Yep, we are gonna strand Ellis.
It's really frustrating that we have been facing soft tossing lefties for about three weeks straight and still haven't made any adjustments.
Wow I said that? Was that after a drunken sosg fest?
Somewhere out there, Vin is talking about the shadows.
Lots of empty seats there in at&t park
@AC
"Is Loney a good enough replacement?"
No.
AC, we missed you at the Fest
I want to T-bone Zito.
Giants fans standing O for Zito getting out of the first.
Ah, sure.
That's how!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Is Adrian Gonzalez a good enough replacement for Loney? Hehehe
That was in no way expected.
Missed you guys too. But had to do the "work" fest. Definitely not as fun.
Yeah we really missed you, AC. Next time, blow off work man.
As Neeebs pointed out yesterday, how can a man be named "Angel" and "Pagan"? He's a walking oxymoron.
And a moron.
If Pagan runs, I want an Ellis to Ellis gun down!
TEST PAGAN.
Dammit!
Ellis to Ellis misfire
@4x7
Sorry, man. Wasn't going to happen.
It was a little bit of wishful thinking.
In fact, that was just a terrible throw to MEllis. Slow, and on the wrong side of the base.
Blanton looks downright thin when he's in the same camera frame as Panda.
Pubes DP here.
BWAH. I'll take that.
Sitdown, Pubes!
Screw this...
"At a time of year when others in his position are wearing down, [Posey]'s getting stronger."
HMMMMMMMMMMMM.
We play better when we're losing, right?
*le sigh*
Blanton gets the hard out but can't get fucking Pence, who hasn't had a good swing since June
@Quad - I think the correct phrase is "we play a lot when we're losing"
We lose a lot when we play.
Great point, Orel (the commentator, not the Son): The Dodgers would rather have Kershaw on the mound today.
You're right FB.
30 pitches.
I'm going to go back to the (undisclosed location where SoSG Fest III: The Search for Runs was held) and see if there is any leftover blue margaritas to help me through this one.
Blanton is worthless
Ellis to the mound to remind Blanton how much he sucks.
I remember the talk about Blanton when he came over was that he was a changed pitcher because he was throwing nothing but strikes and didn't walk anyone
fuck you, spaz
Did Belt catch that with his face?
SHADOWS SHADOWS SHADOWS SHADOWS
SHADOWS SHADOWS SHADOWS SHADOWS
SHADOWS SHADOWS SHADOWS SHADOWS
Dre got lucky - that last pitch was on inside of plate but called a ball.
Then he pops out.
Neither pitcher is throwing many strikes. Zito seems to be getting outs though, strange.
@FB, (Blanton) I think he was throwing more strikes with the Phillies because Ruiz was his catcher. I know if I had a ball I would be throwing it at Ruiz's face all day.
CHEATERRRRRS!!!!
Great call, Nic!
Nice catch, A Gon!
Loney who?
Much better inning.
Nice grab AGon.
I vote for throwing at people's face, too.
Uribe was told Saturday that he might be totally obese.
Good hustle, Joe
My god the Red Sox suck.
good pro
I mentioned this to Dusty yesterday, but when you're drunk, the restrooms at yesterday's undisclosed location are as difficult to navigate as one of Stubbs' PCS puzzles.
@Nomo
The beauty of going there all the time is that I can navigate the bathroom easily even when I'm blind drunk.
But yeah, the upside down light switch throws people for a loop.
Let's get something done, A Gon!
yep, inning done :(
fuck the Jets
Nice try,Kung Fu Puto.
PabloSandoval trying to steal. That's rich.
Even AJEllis gunned you down, KFP. That's embarrassing.
What is this biased sappy-ass pro-SF ad they're running?
Fuck you ESPN!
ps- Please run a biased sappy-ass pro-LA ad.
Let's get some runs DAMMIT!
Our team just looks like it doesn't have any energy, just lifeless.
Come on ice cream.
We swing too much against this bum
Is Dave Hansen still our hitting coach?
Are the NFL replacement refs umping this game?
We should swing AT this bum.
We are going to score a grip of runs this inning.
(cries)
One of my biggest pet peeves on earth: During SF vs LA games when the announcers tell the viewers that the crowd is chanting "Beat LA!". To me, it's even more annoying than the chant itself.
And I know Vin does this, but I try to refrain from criticizing him over it.
If Blanton can pitch a few more scoreless innings, we'll only have the bats to blame.
Do the Giants have any significant injuries right now?
Does anybody here use OpenOffice?
Mickey Hatcher signaling ball four with gusto!
No, but I use OpenTable.
Apparently Rivera can't count to four.
(Useless comment of the night.)
Sandoval getting a tad lazy.
At least we clear Blanton here.
Remember when Barry Bonds cleared for pitchers?
good job, Joe
There was only one out? Damn.
@FB
I used it up until a couple of years ago, but not much at all any more since I got free Office through work.
We get all our hits in the wrong order.
@DB - thanks. At home, I just need basic Word and Excel functionality. Am I right to assume that OpenOffice can do that and isn't too different from MS Office? I think I need an actual application rather than GoogleDocs
The Zitogasm continues with ESPN announcers.
I'm ready to kick little furry animals.
why can't we do that?
TEST PAGAN.
@FB
Right on the money, FB. And you can convert and save between OpenOffice format and Word or Excel formats.
I like Google Docs ok for collaborative/sharing type things but for day to day word processing type stuff, it's more comfortable to use a stand-alone program.
@Spank - like Blanton's chin?
Nice fucking throw there,Dre. You rock.
(punches wall)
(drowns a sackful of kittens)
cool - thanks, DB!
Thanks for drowning kittens, I assume you meant, FB.
No problem!
yeah - way too many kittens out there
I bet the Giants sign Victorino in the offseason just to make him more annoying
Rain in LA, with a lot of humidity. Weird. Cue some idiot claiming it's earthquake weather.
Hanley takes so many called strike 3s
HanRam looking at a LOT of strike 3s lately. Gotta swing to hit, man.
Fuck.
*kicks Blanton's chin*
DAMMIT!
And they aren't always some tricky backdoor thing. They are mostly right in there. It's like he decides way before the pitch that he's not gonna swing
Exactly, FB.
Stubbs and I use GoogleDocs for puzzle collaborations.
The fact that we have to scratch and claw for runs is absurd.
Pubes. Why did it have to be Pubes.
MOTHERFUCKINGSHIT!
It had been a while since he gave up a homer
Why can't our long at bats en in HRs rather than strikeouts looking?
@Sax - I wish we had the ability to scratch and claw for runs
Actually been a pretty good sports year for me. The Dodgers are sucking but that wasn't unexpected.
Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN
That's the first home run for Posey since Aug. 11... He keeps gaining momentum in the MVP race...
Two-run deficit felt like we had a chance. Four runs is insurmountable.
I'm all for Buster winning MVP if it means he gets a 50 game PED suspension next year.
Way to interfere, knowledgeable Giants fan!
McClatchy High, brah!
@Nic, he'll just hire Braun's lawyer
throw strikes, stupid
“@Buster_ESPN: That's the first home run for Posey since Aug. 11... He keeps gaining momentum in the MVP race...”
Yes, I can see how a solo shot after a 4-week drought, when your team is already up 3-0, can be quite valuable.
DAMMIT
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
So can this fake-ass Winehouse
Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN
One Giant leaned over and said, "Man, how good of a hitter is [Posey] to take a bunch of funky swings like that -- and then hit it over CF?"
3 hits
I'm just trolling myself now.
Spoiler for Juan Rivera: It's going to be a curve ball!
The Gint fans and the Dodger batters both think that everything that Zito throws is a strike tonight.
Nice pick by Crawford.
We are masters of the fielder's choice force-out.
take the walk, AJ
Terribly pessimistic PGT drafted and ready to go.
We are masters of SUCKING
should have rung him up - i would have
And you know the Snakes will score 9 off him next time out
I'm too surly even to be surly.
If I knew how to scuba, I would get into the cove and slash those inflatable boats from below
@FB
Send those shithole fans to the same watery death that befell those kittens in the bay.
If only Juan Rivera hit as well as he grabs his crotch.
Just keep taking, Bobby! I'm sure he'll walk you!
This ain't the AL. THrow the god damned ball, pitcher!
Gnomes is expecting a K here.
Hunch.
Thanks, Gnomes.
Scary thing? If Kershaw starts today, we still lose.
I was expecting a backwards K. At least he swung.
it's only the 7th? We have 2 more innings of this?
Ellis walk, Victorino popup
I just thought the same thing, FB. Seems like 17 innings of shitsucking.
I have to say, these crowds cannot get their shit together on the Beat LA chant. Hilarious.
That probably broke Ellis' foot
Rancho Victorendo.
