The latest on Ryan Dempster, once a coveted piece for the Dodgers: Rather than ending up with the Los Angeles, whose discussions shifted in recent days to teammate Matt Garza, Dempster may be off to another playoff contender in Atlanta:
The Braves and Chicago Cubs are closing in on a trade that would send Dempster to Atlanta, sources told ESPN.com.
The deal, a source told ESPN.com MLB Insider Keith Law, would send Atlanta right-hander Randall Delgado to Chicago in exchange for Dempster.
But Dempster refuted the deal on his foundation's official Twitter account: "THERE IS NO TRADE dont know where this info came from!"Ryan Dempster could be a member of the Atlanta Braves in the near future. But the highly coveted pitcher claims he's staying put in Chicago.
Stay tuned, all-caps fans.
UPDATE 4.34p: Braves and Cubs have reached agreement, though it's not live yet. And Jon Heyman says it's still 50-50.
Oh, and the YankMes have picked up Ichiro, for prospects. Wow.
