Game 5 Thread: April 10 vs. Pirates, 1p (Opening Day 2012)

Clayton Kershaw (0-0, 0.00) vs. Kevin Correia (0-0, -.--).

Finally, the home opener that Dodger fans have been waiting for! With festivities including the Beach Boys, appearances from the 1962 team, and a naval flyover, this 50th anniversary celebration is going to start out with a bang. Festivities begin at 12.15p.

Meanwhile, about that game... Kershaw is feeling better than his road opener last week, which should spell bad news for the Pirates; as Jon Weisman punned earlier, the only hurling Kershaw should be doing today hopes to be from the mound. Correia is 5-4 with a 4.41 ERA lifetime, but was 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA last year (one start, we got 10 hits off him).

SoSG Orel, Dusty, and myself will be at the game this year, reporting as much as the spotty cellphone coverage (and beer-fueled, sun-baked field-level dehydration) will permit.

Go Dodgers!

Yes, Urine!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I've come to accept that Uribe is in the lineup to make the other guys look better.

Sure, Matt Kemp is a beast, but when he's racking up 100 runs scored with Uribe batting behind him, HE'S BEAST MODE!!!

Steve Sax said...

En route!!!

Hideo Nomo said...

Now Brandon Phillips is locked up. Will there be anyone to get in free agency?

Dusty Baker said...

At the yard, Vinny!

Get well soon.

Franklin Stubbs said...

Chained to my desk, Vinny!

Steiner/Lyons on TV. Lordy.

Franklin Stubbs said...

I'll take Steiner over Collins any day, actually.

Uribe is going to bust out today! 4-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI...

No, not really.

@Stubbs

Agreed. It's Lyons who's really unnecessary.

Steve Sax said...

In the Dodgers team store queue, non-Vin!

Franklin Stubbs said...

The only thing Uribe will be busting out is the stitching of his jersey.

Hideo Nomo said...

@Sax:

Fuck the merch, grab a beer!

spank said...

I think a telecast is unnecessary without Vin. #MuteButton

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

@Spank agred. tv sound will be muted, and the ipod on shuffle.

Hideo Nomo said...

Maybe SAP is in order.

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

SAP, now you're talking. Who's doing espanol? Jorge Jarrin and Manny Mota's kid, right?

I'm feeling some good vibrations.

Looks like Sergio Garcia gave up his golf career for the big money of being the Dodgers bat boy.

Beach Boys sang Surfer Girl, but Brian Wilson looked like he didn't know where the hell he was.

Their national anthem was more straight up, ahead of the flyover...

Cold and rainy up here in the Bay Area. Turned on MLB network and there is sunny Dodger Stadium, just watched Kershaw go 1, 2, 3 in the first.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Jason said...

I wonder if Barajas pulled off his rock-Dee-to-sleep act off pregame...

Jason said...

Either AT&T coverage still sucks at the stadium or the Sons are stuck in beer line purgatory.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Orel's stuck in beer line, Sax is asleep, and Dusty's...

heckling Orel while he's in the beer line?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Whoa, Loney walks and Uribe singles? The Sons are attending a momentous occasion.

Franklin Stubbs said...

Stranding the lead-off triple is acceptable.

Franklin Stubbs said...

Yes, I'm behind.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Well, at least we got Kershaw out of the way for the third.

Jason said...

Damn, Kershaw could have the best pickoff move in baseball.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Wow, Correia must not practice running the bases much.

Jason said...

Nice AJ!

Love how Kershaw is dealing with a smile today.

Jason said...

Juan Rivera: GIDP Machine

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

It looks like someone told Loney that he'd start the season 0-for-13 in his pic.

Jason said...

That was a Barajas Boom if I ever saw one.

QuadSevens said...

Kershaw is looking good today.*

*My view is the box score

Jason said...

Urine is on first. I'm so confused.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Uribe has two hits today!

Jason said...

AJK? After a Uribe single, my world view is all screwed up.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

It's up to Dee to score Uribe.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

DeeBB. It's up to Mellis.

Jason said...

Uribe is the definition of clogging the basepaths here...

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Fuuuuck.

Jason said...

Czar, Parcells dropped out of the Saints job today. You've applied, right?

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I sent my application to the Saints last week, but I think my record with fight clubs might be a turn-off.

Jason said...

Fight clubs? We don't talk about no fight clubs.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Spank spilled the beans, not me!

rbnlaw said...

Surly factor +6. Fatigue factor -12

Still, it's Opening Day.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I hope the fans like pitchers' duels, cause they ain't getting Beast Mode today.

Jason said...

Sue: That hurt, 'Dre?

Ethier: Just my pride, baby. Just my pride.

Jason said...

This is Rivera's chance to show he's more than a GIDP machine. He's a GISP machine, too!

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

Why can't Harang and Capuano be as good as correia?

Hideo Nomo said...

Because they're Harang and Capuano.

Jason said...

DAMMIT!

Hideo Nomo said...

Smalls balls.

Jason said...

Sigh, Home Loney.

Jason said...

WTF? Home Uribe is good(ish)?

Hideo Nomo said...

Franklin Stubbs said...

Of the 5 hits against Correia, Uribe has 3 of them?!

Jason said...

Urib3?

Franklin Stubbs said...

Well, against the Pirates, anyway. I guess this last one was off Cruz

Jason said...

Come on, we all know Kershaw is a better hitter than Kennedy

Jason said...

Impressive curve.

Franklin Stubbs said...

Let's have some offense!

Jason said...

MEllis: Not impressive, offensively.

Or offensive, offensively?

Jason said...

'Dre bomb!

QuadSevens said...

Love the green writing on yahoo's box score!

2-1 Good guys.

Jason said...

Props to the guy sitting in the front row against the bullpen wall for pulling in Ethier's homerun ball.

Franklin Stubbs said...

'Dre!

Franklin Stubbs said...

Love the delayed Gameday reaction.

Cliff Beefpile said...

Dre Day! Quick shout out to the Sons and followers at the game...wish I was there.

On a sour note, I don't look forward to the day with Charlie Steiner and Steve Lyons as the full-time broadcast team. Please get well soon, Vin, and then live forever.

Jason said...

CutchGIDP! Making party!

Hideo Nomo said...

YES!!!

Franklin Stubbs said...

We make home opener party!

Franklin Stubbs said...

Is it just me, or is Javy about the least physically intimidating looking closer out there?

Jason said...

Lyons is wearing one of Vin's blazers from 10 years ago.

sanfrandodgerfan said...

Good way to close it out.
