Clayton Kershaw (0-0, -.--) vs, Edinson Volquez (0-0, -.--)
Thank the baseball gods! After anti-climactic, off-time-zoned Japanese baseball games with MLB teams, followed by weird art-deco "stadiums" going through their own antiseptic, abhorrently-colored motions--the Dodgers finally get to do a REAL opening day, today at Petco Park.
Finally, real baseball. I can't wait!
Kershaw was 3-0 against the Padres last year, and is obviously going to be a critical part of any run the Dodgers make this year. Volquez was acquired by the Padres from the Reds in December; he was 2-0 with a 3.48 ERA in 20.2 innings this spring (but was 5-7 with a 5.71 ERA in 20 starts last year for Cincinnati). Let's start this season off on the right foot!
Go Dodgers!

I forgot how fuckin awful Urine's swing looks.
missed that one, (ch)ump!
Looked safe, by a hair, to me.
What?
Urine BB.
Well, we have plate discipline.
UrineBB? How? What? Huh?
ha Urine was about to put his shit down like he struck out - force of habit...
Come on AJellis!
I thought uribe didn't take pitches, good eye fat man.
oh man - Eddie'sSon has a reason to be pissed on those non-strikes, but he got the gift on the our on the plate
This ump has a wonky strike zone.
Take it AJ
K. Now don't take it AJ!
jeez, at that strike wasn't even close
Mmmm... AjellisBB goodness...
Unless that happens!
Ajellis BB RBI!
Ah, the old repeatedly-get-walks-with-the-bases-loaded offense. I love it.
Just like Kershaw the Dodgers have some runs!
No K, AK!
good eye, AJ!
Adam Kennedy, first man off the bench.
<< Just like Kershaw the Dodgers have some runs! >>
Bravo, Paul.
Kerhsaw not eligible for the win.
Feel better, Kid. See you next week!
Dont they know that loney can't run?
good work Clayton. If this was spring training, you could still get the win
Thanks a bunch, Kennedy.
heh heh, Paul
valiant effort CK - we'll see you on Tuesday!
Yay Matt Kemp commercial on mlb.tv!
Where is Sirhan Sirhan when we need him?
Vladimir Shpunt is really sending Kershaw some bad vibes.
I think he sent Clayton some bad clams, too
2-0 Dodgers through 3.5.
Josh Lindblom on to pitch, given Kershaw's flu finally got the best of him...
Nice to see a hoppin' GT here, boys and girls!
Am I crazy or is the comment page cutting off at 200? I can only see new comments on the post itself.
Yeah, that's not gonna fly.
And just like that, it's fixed.
trottin' GT, more like it
You can only see comments past 200 by commenting yourself.
Ahhhh! Get Frank off my computer screen!
woah, that was closer than it should have been
Although, Frank's new girlfriend is kinda hot.
Wow, Frank McCourt upgraded in the significant other department.
DEEGO!
DEEEEEEE!!!
I see McCourt has decided to settle down with a nice girl his own age...not at all a gold digger.
who is Frank's lady? she looks like she could be on Housewives of New Jersey
or Mistresses of Staten Island
HOLY SHIT, DEE!!!!!!!
I need a pic of Frank's squeeze, ASAP.
I bet she's got ample parking lots, if you know what I mean.
She's got huge tracts of land where one could develop a mall or build a football stadium, if you know what I mean
Dee3B
Atta boy, Dee-Lite!
Or 3Dee?
Meh. I'll take it.
Damn, E-8.
TripleD!
NOW GET HIM HOME, YOU FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND SOB!
Man, I'm rusty.
That was a Dee influenced bobble if I've ever seen one.
Mehllis
attaboy Matty!
i will take that every time
ugh
"She's got huge tracts of land where one could develop a mall or build a football stadium, if you know what I mean"
"I bet she's got ample parking lots, if you know what I mean."
Oh, you mean she's a real estate mogul like Frank? And here I thought Frank was just a man-whore looking for a sugar babe. Boy, do I feel like a jerk.
Main page updated with McCourt gal pal goodness.
now is when Dre hits a HR
Frank's new woman's right arm
That is one sexy arm.
I wonder what the conversation was like when Frank introduced her to Magic. "Hey Earvin, I'd like you to meet my new sweety, Traci."
"Um Frank, not for nothin, but you got $2 billion dollars coming to you. You can do better than that. No offense, Traci..."
Test.
According to Vin, Kyle Blanks has an irrational hatred of football
Two solid innings from Lindblom so far. 3-0 Dodgers after 5.
I though Kyle Blanks had an irrational hatred of his brother Billy.
nice work, Josh
@Orel, who doesn't!
I like the symmetry in the box score:
H R E
LA 3 2 0
SD 0 2 3
3-0 through five, Lindblom has two scoreless innings
Still got a cold beer waiting for you, Sax!
BASS, how low can you go!
cc: Dusty
Oh shit, we need runs. MacDougal's warming.
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy!
Damn, the Toronto - Cleveland game went 16 innings and over 5 hours.
Colby Rasmus with a big, fat 0-7 on the day.
Still at work! And we're winning!
But I'm listening to Charley and Rick through my iPad.
trivia: Which 2 pitchers are tied for the most opening day starts in LA Dodger history?
Woo! First conflicting edit of the season!
@Orel, I don't think I'm going to make it by, sorry
Mr McCourt, I am happy you have found true love again. I thought Jamie was the one until that sneaky driver put a spell on her
I'll have an extra for you, Sax.
@Orel
Top of my head guess: Drysdale and Sutton
300
Uribe hit that pretty well, but right at the left fielder
Hmmm. Not Koufax?
We're still winning!
Career too short, maybe.
Uh oh, McDougal sighting.
Interesting, MLB.tv offers the ability to mute at least some ads.
oh god, Mac
MacDougal walks Venable.
trivia answer:
Drysale & Sutton (7 each)
Congrats, Jason!
Streak of SoSG dominance lives on!
nice work, Jason!
my first "Throw strikes, stupid!" of the season
Mac gives it up, of course. 3-1 Dodgers.
CUT HIS SCRAWNY ASS I HATE HIM SO MUCH.
This is what happens when McCourt shows up on the mainpage.
there goes the shutout
thanks macshitty
damn, MacMeatball
Is it just my browser or is there no "Next 200 comments" type link on the Blogger comment interface? I'm jsut typing this in blind not being able to see the last 120-odd comments.
i don't like it when Vin talks about the "wet burrito"
Dusty, try this link
oh wait, he can't see it
Dusty, yeah. I'm having the same problem on iPhone. If you leave the thread and come back, it gets stuck at 200. Once you comment again, the recent comments are there.
Dusty, I have
< Newest>>
at the bottom of my comments page.
Okay, that should have read:
<< Oldest < Older Newer > Newest >>
@Orel
But it's only after you have commented, as (I read backward/upward) Marla pointed out. You're a lil slow on the old IT uptake, ain't ye? Or, you're drunker than I.*
*I'm dead sober
@Orel
Try closing your browser then clicking into this thread. You will only see 200 comments (all of them brilliant I might add), with no option to see newer ones. Only when you comment in the space do you then come up with a screen that allows you to view other, newer comments.
Regrettably Orel also oversees our IT Department, which has recently experienced some "right-sizing."
And now my favorite is in
I see what you mean, Dusty. Guess you'll have to burn a few garbage comments to see the latest, even if if decreases your MIP (masterful insight percentage).
SOSG game thread needed one more game of spring training to work out the kinks.
^ it
UJTD! Suck it,Madres!
Yeah I really hate having to type uninformed jibberish just to get to the latest comments. I'll have to think of some useless trash comments to burn through.
thank you, Matt
@Dusty, I think if you keep "Urine is fat and sucks at baseball" in a text file, you can copy and paste that at any point and still be relevant in the conversation
MEllis!
BOOM!
One down, 49 to go.
Bison, bishes!!!
@FB
Even better: make a macro out of that text
KEMP 2-RUN HR! 5-1 Dodgers!
WOOHOO!! KEMP MOFOS!
Bison up in dis bish, bishes!
MATTY!!!!! 49 to go!!
Fer crap's sake, Ethier, come on!
Dre Ks on three pitches
Fuck your fucking spring stats!
Juanny with the double down the line!
"Jim" forget the number of outs.
Crap.
heh Rivera was a couple feet short on that slide back
@Jason - he must have though Dre's strikeout was so bad it counted for 2 outs
Kenley!
well-placed roller for an infield single
Ellis got the worst of that foul ball
wonky ump
My eyes still hurt from that Either at bat.
That ball was crushed.
cripes - Maybin bonked that one
Looks like Guerra is going to get a save opportunity after all.
Is it the speed gun or has Kenley lost a couple of MPH on his fastball?
Guerra also gets a little bit of job security.
I remember that Manny hit one that far back, in that area of Petco. But man, that was just yanked.
@FB
Who's to say he's lost velocity versus just Opening Day jitters mean he's not opening up full bore. I vote the latter.
Didn't Kenley have a sore shoulder during spring training?
I'm super late, but
BISON POWER!!!!!
plus it's cold there in SD
I don't remember the shoulder but Kenley had a wonky heart
but he could have had shoulder issues too
Eduardo, Ernesto, whatever.
Steve Lyons, you add nothing
Maybe I just edited out the off-season and am thinking of Kenley's DL stint last season for shoulder soreness.
Steve Lyons adds suckitude.
OMG was that a horrible AB for Urine. I don't even know what to say. What is he trying to do each time? Most batters have an approach, a strategy, given the pitcher, the situation, etc. Urine's got nothing, it would seem.
YOU CAN DO BETTER!
OMG indeed.
I think Uribe is trying to hit 500 foot homers every time
BREAKING NEWS FROM RBN:
Texting from a bar, shockingly, RBN asked me to relay the fact that he yelled "Fuck yes, Matt Kemp" really loud in what I believe to be an Angels bar.
Well played, RonRon.
Ajellis!
AJEllis with a nice little single. Now I have to walk the dogs.
And that's not a euphemism.
@DB
Uribe's strategy when batting at the plate is the same as when eating at the dinner plate: go for everything.
I like to "walk the dogs" in the shower each morning.
Hairston, your job for this whole season is to get walks
Steve, Steve we need an app for this blog.
Hairston with a base on balls.
nice, Jerry
I don't know about dogs, but I often walk the dinosaur.
Stop swinging at balls in the dirt, Dee!
Dee's gotta get better at not swinging at balls he can't hit
Leave him in bud.
Every time Kemp comes up I hear the Godzilla theme song in my head.
Kill em kemp
haha Cliff, that's great!
Time for Kemp to start crowding the plate. No one is going to throw him anything from center plate in.
Come on, Dodgers, put 'em away...I gotta switch over to the Kings game soon!
Watching live and keeping up with you guys on Blogger can be a challenge.
Enjoying this game with a nice glass of Mer Soleil Chardonnay.
Go Blue
(we's lookin good)
I wonder if MB is the only SoSG reader drinking Chardonnay.
There may be a McCovey s lurking here with Chardonnay in pinky-extedened hand, also.
^ uh McCovey Chronicles. Not sure how that got edited out.
Oh wait...
400
Other than the blown call on Ethier's slide at home, the ump seems to be a bit of a Dodger homer...and I'm totally OK with that.
Jason with 400 badge.
Amongst this crowd I probably am the only Chardonnay drinker. Scotch is out tonight as I need to function in the morning.
#400
Nice pitch!
Ooops, late on the draw
So far, so good for Javy. One down.
I'll drink a Chard once and awhile but not my favorite white. Cheers!
Functioning in the morning is overrated, MB. Join us with a victory Scotch! Hopefully!
Two down!
