The Giants Gave Larry Ellison a World Series Ring

From the San Francisco Chronicle (via Fark):

Ring thing: What was up with San Francisco Giants President Larry Baer presenting Larry Ellison with a World Series championship ring at the opening ceremony of Oracle OpenWorld?

"Oracle is one of our oldest corporate sponsors," Baer told us.

So along with Coca-Cola, AT&T, Chevron, Bank of America, Visa, Charles Schwab and other big advertisers at AT&T Park, they are entitled to a championship ring.

And not just any ring, but an "A" ring - the highest of the four grades handed out to 400 or so people associated with the team, from Giants starters to minor-leaguers to ballpark workers.

"Everyone got a ring of some kind," Baer said, adding: "And by the way, until the Series is over, we are still world champions."

So does that mean when the Dodgers win the World Series, the CEO of VIP Tickets gets a ring?

Larry (Ellison) puts on a good show for his employees (for a corporate gig, that is). Been to it in years past, it's really quite lavish, particularly in this day and age. Shitty opening act (Sting), decent closer (Tom Petty). Bootlegs are already circulating.

I once got a stern glance from Larry (Baer) for heckling the Giants, begging them to bring back William Van LaunchingPad and Shawn Estes (whom we almost did bring back - don't get any ideas, Ned!) I don't think Baer found that amusing. Whatever.

They're also giving WS rings away in every box of Honeycombs. Everyone's a winner!

Based on the radio ads, Alison Janney may get a ring when the Dodgers win.

So let me get this straight........is that Bochy in the pic with a CEO? The manager? 2 positions that don't really have any effect on performance according to the book i'm reading now "The Drunkard's walk: How Randomness rules our lives".......and wth is the difference between the 4 rings and who is getting them?
