Clayton Kershaw (1-1, 2.08) vs. Ashley Bumgarner (0-1, 9.00).
Security will be tighter than Fort Knox today at the Big Phone Park, which I can only guess is due to the much-ballyhooed return of Juan Uribe and his vaunted .111 batting average to San Francisco. Man, they must miss him. (In fact, so do we.)
In all seriousness, tonight's game will collect funds for Bryan Stow at the gate, augmenting the Dodgers' efforts held today at the Stadium. I know it's not July yet, but let's stay safe and sane up there tonight, okay?
Meanwhile, we've got a hell of a pitching matchup: the Dodgers throw the Minotaur, who took the loss in his second outing but still has two quality starts and 17 Ks on the year, versus Bumgarner, who lasted three innings against the Padres and gave up 5 H, 3 BB, and 3 ER. And the best way for the Dodgers to subside the anxieties of what will be an amped-up Giants crowd will be for Kershaw to come out gunning, hoping that the offense can pick up the pace a bit (and bounce Bumgarner early). I'm expecting Crete things from the Minotaur (and friends) tonight.

Hooray GO DODGERS!!
I Knossos Cretan puns are going to be a little hard to come by.
Oh no, not Aegean...
If any of you are looking for a belated birthday gift for Mr. C:
@Spinner: Billy Corgan auctioning "Zero" Shirt! please help us spread the word to raise funds for Japan http://bit.ly/fa2zLu
The lucky Oates are in effect tonight.
Let's get the first one and start playing with house money by Wed.
This is Agamemnon't going to attend, even though I'm so Callisto the stadium.
Rockies had a man on second with two out in the first, and Tulo popped to third.
They're playing the Mets, though, so I figure I've got to take happiness in the pyrrhic victories before the Mets succumb.
Is Davey Lopes back yet? Just wondering if the Dodgers will have Thebes on the basepaths tonight.
Gad-Zeus, we're only 10 comments in and the puns already hurt.
I, for one, hope that bad puns will be Athena' the night.
Mets somehow score in the bottom of the first, on a GIDP that ends the inning but scores the run, too. 1-0 Mets over Rox after 1.
With Barajas batting a pedestrian .222, this seems like the right GT to long for Apollo Duca.
Him? Longing for Paulie as akin to Hera-sy.
Minoan thought was restrict in to Crete, but I see y'all have opted for the pan-Hellenic puns.
Rays all over Daisuke and the Sox, up 3-0 already, with none out and two RISP in the second inning.
It's a little Odyssey the rest of the Sons quiet on this GT.
Daisuke is facing his eighth batter in the second and still doesn't have an out registered yet.
7-0 Rays rolling
@Sax
Maybe Theseus torturing these puns and are waiting it out.
I'm Hera!
That was used already. DAMMIT
I always mixed up my Greek and Roman mythology.
Get the hell out of here, you dirty punners! *fires shotgun in the air*
Damn kids with your Greek puns and your yeah-yeah music...
@Neeebs
This is the one without the planets.
@neeebs
...except for Uranus.
*snicker*
It's too bad we don't have better hitting, but I guess the offseason was a Scylla's market. Hopefully Kershaw and our pitching can Charybdis to a sweep!
I Hades threads. I always have to make sure I don't Echo someone else.
I can't remember, how did Bumgarner do when Hephaestus last year? I don't remember it going very well.
*standing ovation for working Scylla and Charybdis into the same pun*
@Mr F 4:57p--beautiful use of Hephaestus. Nice
Rays really swinging the Styx against the Red Sox tonight.
@Orel
I can only hope Artemis able to muster half of that offensive outburst.
That was my Hephaestus, Sax.
I can hardly blame you, though. There are Menelaus to these threads.
My bad, Mr. C! There are so many Misters around here I feel like I'm talking to Richard Page.
sallino
It's hard for me to pick a team for which to root in the Rockies-Mets game. I know we should be rooting against the Rockies, but the Mets?
I don't like Demeter.
ATTENTION: Troy Tulowitzki just made an error. Please note the time and date.
Rox tie it up in the top of the fourth, but the mets strike back with 2 in the bottom for a 4-2 lead through four
Furcal
Carroll
Ethier
Kemp
Uribe
Loney
Thames
Barajas
Minotaur
one hour to game time, party people
shit, Rox tied it up and it's 4-4 in the top of the seventh.
Jason Isringhausen pitching for the Mets for the first time since 1999
Rox threatening for more, two men on with one out and Isringhausen taking the mound for the Mutts.
Mets escape the jam, but are gettign mowed down in the bottom of the 7th
Jose Reyes with a two-out triple for the Mets in the seventh
oh well, three pitch out
how do the Rays have 12 runs, and I have NO badges?
Jason took all the badges to reflect the Medusa's stare into her own face.
Mets determined to lose this game, giving Dexter Fowler a leadoff single and throwing in a WP to get him over to third with one out. Yay.
Parnell tries to go to the plate and throws the ball away. Rox take a 5-4 lead in the eighth.
I'm out of here.
Geez, it's now 7-4 Rox and the Mets only have one out recorded in the eighth. Thanks, NY.
Hate me if you must, but I found that Urine ceremony oddly touching.
*stands faaaaaarrrr away from Spank*
Whoops.
jerkass Giants fans booing Jamey
Josh is still showing some of those 2010 Giant fan roots.
AHHH I was at work trying to finish some stuff. Now I'm off to the gym (hopefully).
Rockies have this division locked up since we know they will win 20 games in Sept.
Jim Twacy is twa best.
Burrell
*shudders*
I wasn't raised with enough Giant hate, it would seem.
Spanky will be singing the song "The Rose" after tonights game.
@MC 4.56 I am getting tons of mileage with that planetary joke with my fourth grader. It transcends generations.
@Sax 7.00 You know it must be early in the season.
Hi Everyone.
When I heard about what happened to Bryan Stow it made me sick to my stomach. Sick for what happened to Bryan and sick at how this represented Dodgers fans in general. I am proud of what the Dodger organization has done in answer to this horrible tragedy.
Having said that, I am ready for some good old fashioned Dodger-gnat baseball.
Let the HATE flow!!!
Neeebs and myself will be doing the interpretive dance version.
*flushes*
Uribe struck out. I drink a beer.
holy cow, Matty
Epale, Karina!!
Kemp is absolutely charmed on the basepaths. Karma.
Matty scores!
KEMP SCORES!!
I'll take it!
@Paul. I feel like squidward.
and Loney with the hit! I'll take anything positive for him.
hi karen, hi karina!
Rod is trying to figure out how to hit into a double play when they are walking him intentionally with 2 outs
I am in a dilemma. I turned on MLB.tv and the Giants broadcast came on first and we scored a run. Is it OK to over to Vin or do I need to stay where I am?
Get thee to Vin ASAP.
Epale, Karina! Karen!
Vin transcends superstition, Fred's Brim.
done and done, in time for the walk to my favorite player
Clayton's got the peach fuzz beard going after his clean shaven loss last time out.
Ump showing no love for the curveball tonight.
this ump isnt seeing the curveballs very well. Clayton's gonna have to figure out what to do with that
like throw more fastballs
Nice inning, kid.
Raffy's gotta start taking some pitches
with that we now have 4 guys hitting under .200 on the team.
That's for the gnat fans who booed him
OT: Just got a new work laptop with Windows 7. Anyone use 7? Tips?
Raffy's sub-par performance is hiding behind Uribe's and Loney's.
A message from MLASC.
oh Dre
Well, that was a waste.
Sax prefers Leif Garrett
Why does Sandoval bat so low in the lineup?
I have Win 7, Josh.
that shard better not have hit a Dodger fan
Epale,Peeps!
Stay far,far away,Josh!
Spanx!
DAMMIT
yeesh
FB you done fucked up changing to Vin.

nice work, CK!
UJTD
Up jumps the devil!!!
moleman hits into a DP!!
Hells Yeah!
Oh are the cool kids using initials?
Starts out 0-2 and gets the walk?? ! Who is this man?
Uribe is getting dangerously close to the sub .100 mark.
It's the RiRi factor.
what's up with King James?I'm getting pessimistic :(
The whole team is hitting below the Mendoza line it seems.
I was expecting a few more solo homeruns on this team between the Ks and ground out.
@Karina...Don't get pesimistic yet, we need your good and positive thoughts!
Sands is now hitting .421 with an OPS of 1.328. Add that to his 3HR's and 9 RBI and Loney betting start hitting or packing his bags.
the Dodger hitters need to watch these Gnat hitters and see how they look at pitches and make the pitcher work
why look when you can hack?
Seriously. The plate discipline is not looking so good.
Funny, Posey doesn't look like a natural leader, he looks more like Opie Taylor
During Kershaw's warmups last week I was sitting 20 feet behind Barajas and when he threw that curve ball my knees buckled.
@karen I'll do my best
Who is Brad Garrett, why does Marla Sportsczar care about him so much?
i hate pat burrell.
Settle down Clayton.
come on Kid. Don't fuck up
Is it me, or is Kershaw struggling?
shit
a double-clutch and two wimpy throws ain't gonna do it
Am I asking a lot of questions?
Gnat conspiracy.
KKKKKERSHAW
So much for that struggling comment.
@RB I think he's doing ok. The hits have been well-placed grounders and wimpy flares
Over powered the Rookie.
Clayton Kershaw doesn't owe 100 scalps, he owes 100 Giants strikeouts.
@FB:
Double clutch bus coming down the street.
Moving pretty fast, better shuffle your feet
I would like a multi run inning By the Dodgers now please.
B-ROD!
Rodney!!
The solo-shot king strikes again!
Ra Ra Rod!!!
Rod takes the bum deep!
Love watching Kershaw get out of jams.
Tanks, FB.
My kid is enthralled with Cake Boss right now, so there is switching back and forth.
She has been removed from the will.
@NicJ :(
@Mr C clever observation but I'll take it
Clayton gets some payback!
i appreciate the baserunner but i would rather not have Kershaw on the basepaths.
@RB I got yo' funky bus fare!
yeesh Clayton
that's dum
There you go Nic.
well, at least he is off the basepaths.
Davey not working with the pitchers, apparently.
Thanks, Davey.
WHEN DID KERSHAW START DATING RIHANNA?!?!
Has Lopes been knighted? That looks like the neck roll I wore in high school football
Damn.I did not see the homerun
and then it comes the walk...
*sighs*
Spank mysteriously leaves the room and the Rod hits. Spank is Rod Barajas
I fucking hate Gameday and KCAL
keep it going, fellas
get into one, Matty!
They can not stop that mini hitting machine
i mean Dre
Get number 100 here Andre.
quick someone tie the devils shoelaces together.
And I saw Barajas drinking a Steel Reserve in the dugout....
RUNNIN' WILD!!
I love this running mentality Davey has brought to the team.
just stand on the base, Jamey
yes Dre!!
Steal home.Dre ain't going to bring you in
can we offer Lopes a multi-year extension?
Single against a lefty = homerun for Dre
Well shut my mouth
the meatball is coming, Matty
Ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!
IT'S FRED'S BRIM CHRISTMAS!
That's how us chicano's do it FB re:Steel Reserve
Urine with a hit?!
This inning has more singles than a strip club.
W00t!
the power of Oat(e)s compels you!!
Damn Matt I can't be mad at you.
@Josh - I couldn't post anything because I was laughing too hard!
200
yay!
The Oates are quakin baby.
Paul 8:28...Ask and ye will recieve!
Even the Oates can't help James.
so Paul are you happy with 4 or did you want more?
GAMEDAY SUCKS!
Yup Karen for once that worked.
