The Assassins' Circle: Kill Thread 4

Repent, The End Is Nigh!
EK knocked me out, and Sax knocked out Sax, so it's down to the final three! It's anyone's game at this point, but one more kill will initiate the endgame. All three players still have the ability to win outright or tie. To the clock tower!

Side discussion/rules thread here.

Orel's timing is incredible. Nicely done.

Oh man! Cut it too close.

Congrats Orel.

I knew Orel's timing was impeccable from last round so I knew I had to be right on the cusp.

You guys were definitely in sync with your comments.

Off to the AC Pub!

We have a winner! Anybody know if this is the first SoSG contest won by and actual Son?

(SoSG Archivist Hideo Nomo, I'm looking at you)

We need to tweak in future so later rounds aren't just trying to time last second comments. Just my .2 on what is already the greatest game ever created besides Zork I.

Actually, I thought the interesting thing about this round wasn't the 3-o'clock-chicken, but that Quad definitely went against his best interests by initiating. He only had to survive in order to take the AC crown.

If Orel's target was him, so if the two of them survived, he would win the tiebreaker. Conversely if Orel and initiated and EK killed him, he would have been easy pickings and he would have been the last man standing.

There are other scenarios where he could have lost, even in those situations, but he took, by far, the riskiest strategy.

Risky indeed Stubbs. My strategy was slightly thought out though.

I knew that both Orel and EK would not be no shows. I also knew that Orel had been very good about getting his comment in at the last second. That seemed to be his standing strategy thoughout the game. Which means he would most likely kill me or I'd be one second late and kill myself.

EK is smart. I thought it would be very unlikely that he would initiate and leave himself open for me to kill him. If I did, that would leave me wide open to Orel who would win. I'm sure EK saw this as a no win option for himself, so he wouldn't initiate.

Since EK had already conceeded the prize to me as the only reader left, I decided to take the risky/entertaining option of initiating. It was fun and I look forward to playing again.

Honestly, this explanation took longer to type out than I actually spent thinking about it. I think I decided to initiate while driving to work yesterday morning.

I knew three things: a) Quad was leading in kills, and b) Orel was probably the quickest draw, and c) I needed Orel to kill Quad to win.

I also knew Quad needed either myself or Orel to die to win. And Orel needed both Quad and I to die to win, or have all 3 of to go out at the same time but be the last one.

Before the game started, I thought Quad might initiate, assuming Orel would wait for 3 o'clock chicken rather than shoot early and give up his competitive advantage as mr quickdraw. I didn't think Orel would initiate and leave himself a sitting duck for me, as he would think that I would think that Quad wouldn't pick me off, as he (Quad) knew that I knew Orel was the quickest draw, and thus I might dare pick off Orel and assume Quad would be afraid to kill me knowing...

Oh never mind. All I know is there's a lot of game theory involved especially with fewer competitors left.

This is, to my knowledge, the only contest won by an active Son. (I haven't gone through every puzzle result, though.)

All I know is Quad's actions determined how I would play this round. Which is how I played all the other rounds.
