Hefner and the rest of the Mets' starting rotation. Is there a pair of aces in there? (Sorry for a lack of saggy boobs. [But not that sorry.])
Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-1, 4.01) vs. Jeremy Hefner (0-2, 7.07).
After a series-starting pounding, followed by a totally deflating collapse, the Dodgers try to sneak out of Citi Field with a series win and a road series stalemate (3-3). Ryu got shelled by the Orioles for five runs over six innings, in his last start. Hefner got shelled by the Nationals for three runs and 2 HR over four innings, in his last start.
The Dodgers have the fourth-best OBP in the majors (.344) but rank 29th in runs scored (only ahead of Miami). So my guess is, we will only beat Hefner if we can keep hitting balls in play, boy. And if we can make sure our all-star, Matt Kemp, who has just started hitting again, starts the game in centerfold.
(Man, these early morning breakfast games. Honestly, I don't see how those guys on the east coast handle this.)

We need to increase our On-Home-Base-Percentage.
BOOOOOOOOOOOBS!
1 Crawford, LF
2 Punto, 2B
3 Gonzalez, 1B
4 Kemp, CF
5 Ethier, RF
6 Uribe, 3B
7 Hernandez, C
8 Sellers, SS
9 Ryu, P
What an Ellis-less lineup! I don't predict much offense today, not with Punto, Urine, Hernandez, and Sellers taking four of the eight position slots.
We need Dre to have a big game. This Hefner guy has been pretty awful. I'm sure he will turn it around against us.
They might PUSH some runs across.
CHUGS PERK
Kemp with the RBI single. 1-0 Blue.
Keeping Hefner's ERA above 7.
There's your run, Ryu.
There's your Ryun.
Uribe gets a walk.
Ugh. Sellers.
Always be sorry for a lack of saggy boobs.
^Great Flaming Menudos song.
1-0 Dodgers in the third.
#FaveFlave
Hefner on pace to pitch well past his 4 inning average.
Sellers, you are not hitting well enough to make stupid fielding errors like that
GET IT TOGETHER
Sellers batting .212
Uribe batting .150
Hernandez batting .083
It's like a giant screaming death spiral of suck
What's the 'nasty factor" on Gameday?
Let me ask Scout.
Ryu's change up gets a higher "nasty factor" number than his fast ball and curve. His curve is hardly nasty at all. I would say it's more sleazy.
Hefner has given up 7 homers in April. April. We can't hit this dude?
Gameday says "Uribe in the hole."
Isn't he ever...
@Sax Either is batting .232 you can add him to your death spiral roster.
He does look like a character on Dig Dug.
@Paul: Because you said he was gonna turn it around.
Dodgers' 2-3-4 go down much too quietly in the fourth inning. Kemp's K looked especially alarming.
Mets have first and second with one out.
Bottom 4, 1-0 Dodgers
@DBT 11:02a: Yeah, Ethier is almost picking up a slot on that death spiral roster. I agree
UJTD!
Credit where credit is due: Uribe turned a nice 5-3 DP there.
And didn't eat the ball
We play the ugliest games.
Uribe gets another walk! MVPeee!
As I noted on Twitter, Uribe has not swung at a pitch today. I IS CONFUSED.
We can't take advantage of our new Hero's patience at the plate.
Villagers on KCRW, nice accompaniment to this ugly game.
"I waited for Something, and Something died, So I waited for Nothing, and Nothing arrived..."
It's almost as if the Dodgers want me to be productive.
@Paul I know what you mean.
My nasty factor at work is starting to climb
Ryu losing steam.
The middle innings: where things fall apart.
Damn, tie game.
Ryu is a five inning pitcher. He's good for 15 outs.
Gah. Get out of the inning with no more damage pleaseeeeeee.
@Dusty Baker's Toothpick
6 IP, 1 ER, 7 K, 3 BB, 3 H
That's not bad at all.
Out of it cheaply enough. Now score a fuckin run!
"Andre Ethier flies into a double play, right fielder Marlon Byrd to shortstop Ruben Tejada. Matt Kemp out at 2nd. Two out."
WTF
Kemp's average is up to .266 now.
Wait, please explainnn.
I really don't see how this lineup can possibly score any runs at all.
Hernandez doesn't deserve to wear Orel's number
Donnie's making Ryu work for it. He had 97 pitches through six, and here he is in the seventh.
Wow, Ryu back in for the 7th?
Donnie was probably hoping Ryu could get the bottom of the order out 1-2-3, but Cowgill singled.
Oh, now Yahoo says Ryu got Cowgill out.
that 1-2 pitch was a strike, ump
Ryu is defying my 15-out theory.
Ryu with two outs and GONZALEZ with a sweet foul out behind first!
1-1 through 7
#UribeAteTheGuyWhoAteTheBones
Great outing by Ryu. Now just score some runs!!!!
Nice outing from the Ryuster
That was an awesome Ike Davis biff there. Ball was IN HIS GLOVE and bounced out.
Hairston lives for another swing.
And Hairston promptly squanders the gift, flying out to right.
Always good to have that .167 PH in there to bring the spark, Donnie.
Missing the game. I hate early starts. Stuck in a commission
Planning meeting with people even dumber than Mattingly. And I only have 13% battery left on my phone. Don't disappoint me again Dodgers.
OMG BJ Killeen. I was stuck in a planning commission meeting last night at 7pm with people dumber than Mattingly!
Earvin Magic Johnson @MagicJohnson 2m
Dodger Nation: In the 7-3 loss to the Mets in he 10th last night, it was good to see Matt Kemp hit his 1st HR of the season.
I wish he wouldn't say "Dodger Nation."
Free Van Slyke. He should be our right handed PH. The guy is raking in AAA. They outta give him a chance.
I am not a committee!
Jansen escapes the 8th with a big Byrd strikeout
Not pretty, but I'll take it. Let's score a run or two, please?!??!?!?!
Punto leadoff double in the ninth. Wow, that was unexpected!
To be fair, Punto is batting .360
Shredder double!
We're business! Let's get the hell outta NY with a W please!
A-Gon gets Punto over to third with one out.
IBB to Kemp.
It's up to you, Andre
in*
probably shouldn't have had that salty dog for lunch...
Here's what MLB GameDay Scout says about Rice IBBing Kemp:
"Scott Rice may prefer to go after Matt Kemp, whose OPS is .621 this season, with the fastball rather than facing Carl Crawford, whose OPS is .811."
Since Crawford isn't coming to the plate this inning, I'm not sure why this is relevant, Scout.
YOU'RE FIRED
DRE DAY!
"Good piece of hitting," says Psycho
Golden Showers!!
Urine gets lucky on an infield grounder to short that was unplayable. RBI!
We'll take it. 3-1 LA
And there's Hernandez, on cue, hitting into a rally-killing, inning-ending DP
Hernandez is now batting .071
But sure, if you keep sending him up there, he's bound to get a hit sometime in 2013
Offensive Juggernaut, this team.
Wow is that what scoring runs feels like? Me likes!
Well done, League.
Leadoff HR for the Mets. 3-2
League is throwing too much hittable stuff. Jansen needs to close.
Hope you enjoyed your time as closer, League.
I always thought Jensen should've been the dude anyways...
League is not the answer. Lots of questions.
Not the answer.
Tattoos.
Not the answer.
FFS
Baxter hits a shot but Gonzalez knocks it down and gets it to League just in time. Whew!
phew
DODGERS WIN!
We make unclenched butthole party!!!
As if having Taco Bell for lunch wasn't scary enough.
Bathroom party!
Fuckin shit, good win. High 5's all around
I'll take it.
Come home boys. Come home.
(High 5s DBT)
100
PGT up!
Yay party!!!!
