Bill Buckner Teaches Us About Life

A quote from Bill Buckner, from a profile of Buckner and Mookie Wilson by Reeves Wiedeman in the New Yorker:
"Two-thirds of the games you have probably aren't gonna be very good, so you have to be able to go home, eat your dinner, play with your kids, be nice to your wife, and then come back to the ballpark the next day, ready to go. If you can't do that, you better try something else."

Unless, of course, you are Juan Uribe.

I don't have a slide rule to calculate that probability.

Two-thirds of the time I'm going to be drunk but I'm pretty good at it.

"be nice" to your wife? That's what they called it those days?
