Game 138 Thread: Sept. 1 vs. Nationals, 5p

Roberto Hernandez (8-9, 3.81) vs. Gio Gonzalez (6-9, 3.86).

It's the battle of two guys whose last names end in -ez! Or, the battle of National League division leaders, if you will. And though others are talking about how the Nationals (with a recent 10-game win streak and a six-game lead in the East) are heading in a different direction than the Dodgers, I think we might surprise Labor Day crowds today at the Stadium. Gonzalez, after all, is 0-5 with a 4.38 ERA in his last nine outings; the Nationals are 4-19 over their last 23 at Dodger Stadium.

But let's just have a nice fun day out there today, and let's make sure no one gets hurt this time (in all seriousness, that was scary; even a year later, I feel really bad for Harper). I know it sounds funny, but I just can't stand the pain. Take it...EZ.

Now I want to hear some Eazy E.

Hope A.J. doesn't allow any EZ Passed balls today

Giants won their early resumed game against the Rockies, so they pick up a half-game.

Then they're up in the second game, 4-2 in the third.

Steve Sax said...

Lead is down to two games.

Dusty Baker said...

Looks like Rox are rolling over in today's regular game. These sons of bitches are breathing down our necks.

Dusty Baker said...

MLB Network has our game tonight but...LA get blacked out. Shafted again.

Steve Sax said...

Now 5-2 through four. Show some pride, Colorado

Steve Sax said...

Wait, the fourth inning isn't done yet in COL

Steve Sax said...

Now the fourth is over. It's 5-2. Colorado wasted a threat, and then turned around and allowed a Oyster Pubes leadoff double in the fifth.

Carlos Triunfel DFA'd to make room for Joc Pederson on the 40-man roster.

Dusty Baker said...

Seriously, there is a quacking cheer at Petco park when the Pod reliever Quackenbush is in?

Dusty Baker said...

Bad news is that Chris Perez is back.

Dusty Baker said...

Worse news is that T-Fed is back.

SF 7, COL 2 in the fifth

Unbelievable.

Dusty Baker said...

7-2 now. Feeling the hate rising.

cc: Karen and Spanky

Dusty Baker said...

Guerrero's ear didn't make the 40-man.

SF 7, COL 6, bot 6

"I still believe in a place called Kemp." - Bill Clinton

Hideo Nomo said...

Kemp? Didn't we give in to his mouthy agent and trade him?

No?

Well, yay us!

Oh Fausto, you are such a tease

Fred's Brim said...

Maybe he chose an Italian fake name because he likes serving up meatballs

Dusty Baker said...

Sweet shitsucking Jesus you suck shit, Fausto.

MVP comment, FB.

Fred's Brim said...

the Rockies seem to have grown some testes this evening, 9-7, bot 8. Watch them blow it

Fred's Brim said...

Rendon steals second, LaRoche hits one to the track for the 3rd out

Fred's Brim said...

Dee call safe on a crazy close play racing Gonzales to first, review in progress

Fred's Brim said...

somehow called out

Fred's Brim said...

Nothing in the LAD shots showed anything that would make you overturn it

Fred's Brim said...

NFL refs require something conclusive to overturn a call. I feel like umps will overturn calls when they think there's a 51% chance they missed it even though there isn't the conclusive evidence. On that Dee play, it was impossible to tell if he was tagged, but he probably was, and the "probably" is enough for the umps to change their mind

Fred's Brim said...

nice play by Adrian

Hanley handles the popup at the bag

Fred's Brim said...

of course LaTroy has blown the lead, 9-9 top 9

Fred's Brim said...

grounder to second, good inning for Berto

Orel said...

Nines are wild!

Orel said...

Time for the Rockies to walk off

Fred's Brim said...

all quiet on the offensive front. Gonzales is locked in and we can't hit lefties

Fred's Brim said...

Gonzales Ks trying to bunt, AJ nearly picks off the runner but Dee wasn't at the bag yet

Fred's Brim said...

and now Perez, game over.
At least Sergio Romo still sucks

Dusty Baker said...

Rox ended up winning, but I still feel shitty.

Fred's Brim said...

we'll be lucky to get another hit tonight

Fred's Brim said...

Guerrero up

Fred's Brim said...

@DB 6:44 Me too. We can't keep going without having our guys who are supposed to hit hit. Puig, Hanley, I am looking at you, Kemp you may as well listen too. If we could trust more than 3 of our starters and one reliever, I wouldn't feel so bad about this team right now, but here I sit, trying to watch, trying to not just turn it off, wanting to think positively but knowing better

Fred's Brim said...

Kemp looked like CC on that deep fly by Ramos

Fred's Brim said...

Great play by Dee to get Cabrera

Fred's Brim said...

Umm Dee, bunting right to the first baseman who only has to take one step to touch the base isn't an effective method for getting on base

Fred's Brim said...

hey a flyball out, Gonzales is losing it

Steve Sax said...

holy shit, the Rockies won it in the bottom of the ninth. Way to go, Colorado!

Dusty Baker said...

Not only can I not watch the game bc of MLB Network blackout restrictions, but what is playing on the MLBNetwork is a Royals game so every time I look up, for a split second I think it's the Dodgers. (cries)

Orel said...

Makes me laugh when I remember people picking the Dodgers to win the WS

Fred's Brim said...

hey, it's our bullpen

Steve Sax said...

two leadoff singles from Kemp and SVS in the bottom of the seventh.

Now would be a good time for Puig to show up!

Fred's Brim said...

at least Gonzales is out

Fred's Brim said...

Uribe teases us with an RBI single. Dre PH means a new Nats pitcher

Fred's Brim said...

with the lefty pitcher in, Turner comes in for Dre. Gotta love September callups and wasted players

Orel said...

What do you think, lose by one?

Fred's Brim said...

and wasted commenters

Fred's Brim said...

@Orel I am thinking 2, making that stupid run given up by League all the more painful

Fred's Brim said...

OK it's time for bed, hoping to wake up to a win. Gnite all

Orel said...

Sounds about right

Steve Sax said...

dammit, that might have been our last good opportunity, and we only got one run.

6-3 Nats through 7.

Steve Sax said...

who the heck is Yimi Garcia?

Steve Sax said...

washington loses the challenge! Nats GIDP in the eighth

Orel said...

beats Yimi

Steve Sax said...

Bottom 8: PH, Gordon, Ramirez

Steve Sax said...

@orel 7:49p: nice

Orel said...

@Sax 7:41p: Yi think so?

Orel said...

Dodgers go down 1-2-3 in the 8th

Steve Sax said...

Kemp Ks for out #1 in the ninth

Orel said...

Joc is the winning run. No pressure

Hideo Nomo said...

It's been real, Howard.

Steve Sax said...

PGT up.
