Game 119 Thread: August 18 @ Athletics, 7p

Clayton Kershaw (10-6, 2.39) vs. Felix Doubront (1-1. 4.59).

Sure, let's give the Dodgers a day off before that grueling trip up to Oakland, where we will play two games against the A's, before getting another day off on August 20. Thank you, scheduling gods, for this respite (despite completely screwing us earlier this year, by having us play a 14-games-in-13-days immediately followed by another 20-consecutive-day span of work).

The least we can do is hurl Kershaw, who is coming off a 5-0 record an 0.82 ERA across his last seven starts. Kershaw has had at least eight scoreless innings in five of his last six outings. Felix Doubront, Dou wonderful wonderful Bront, is a new acquisition by the A's from Toronto, who is probably wondering how he ended up moving from a first-place team to a last-place team. Let's stop him before he gets any ideas about reaching into a bag of tricks.

Dodgers enter Tuesday up 3.0 games in the NL West.

Latos to the pen for next 10-11 days per Mutt.

Steve Sax said...

Latos to the bullpen? Or the tattoo ink pen?

karen said...

Can't let game go by without giving props to Saxy's great GT...

karen said...

I keep thinking because we're in Cali that we get Vinny.

Steve Sax said...

@karen 6:42p: aw, shucks, thank you!

Steve Sax said...

Even the mlb.com Gameday A's stadium is ugly, with its tarped upper deck

Steve Sax said...

Rollins K
Hernandez K
Turner fly out

0-0 after 0.5

Dusty Baker said...

That was a shit-ass first AB. It's like they said "Just go out there and swing the fuck away and we'll see what happens. For god's sake, don't work a count or take any pitches because this is the first time you've seen this guy."

Dusty Baker said...

CK gives it up to the first batter, decidedly unlike my prom date.

Steve Sax said...

0-0 through 1 in Oakland.

STL/SF also scoreless through five in St Louis

Steve Sax said...

SF threatening, men at corners with one out in T6

Steve Sax said...

ADRIAN GONZALEZ BREAKS UP THE NO-HITTER!

karen said...

Damn...I was hoping for a collision...

Steve Sax said...

why is Vin not doing the TV broadcast?!

Steve Sax said...

Guerrero is hacking fouls here

Steve Sax said...

And, Guerrero Ks weakly. Adrian stranded at first.

Steve Sax said...

SF takes a 1-0 lead as well

karen said...

Hunter Pence out with an oblique?? Awwww....poor stupid bastard.....

karen said...

@Saxy....I think he must be doing just frisco road games nowadays...

Steve Sax said...

two on, none out for Clayton

Dusty Baker said...

Vine doesn't do OAK games when we play them away. Just SF and if the mood hits him some SD.

Dusty Baker said...

Vin

Orel said rim.

Backhand stab by CK ends the inning. No one is getting another hit the rest of the night - he's pissed.

karen said...

Totally routine D for Clayton. I have come to expect this from the the Stud.

Steve Sax said...

1-0 Oakland through two, but two straight walks for the Dodgers with none out in the top of the third. Oakland is huddling at the pitcher's mound with Doubront. And my mlb.tv seems to be frozen.

Steve Sax said...

show me something, Rollins

Steve Sax said...

Rollins pops to first in foul territory. Really, Jimmy???

Dusty Baker said...

Check swing by Kike hosed us. 1st and 3rd but two outs. JT steps in.

Steve Sax said...

first and third, two out. We're not going to score here.

Steve Sax said...

And, Turner flies to right. Nice effort, 1-2-3 in the batting order! Really well done there.

Dusty Baker said...

We didn't score here.

1-0 Oakland through 2.5

Steve Sax said...

Dodgers can't score in the fourth. Still 1-0 Oakland

Steve Sax said...

Giants up 2-0

karen said...

AJ with Kid's back....

Steve Sax said...

Ellis getting into it with the home plat ump, who seems to be calling time whenever the hell he wants

Steve Sax said...

^plate

Steve Sax said...

Kershaw is very pissed here.

Steve Sax said...

I'm pissed too

karen said...

I'm pissed three

Steve Sax said...

Ellis, now would be a good time for a HR

karen said...

TIED AT 1....

Dusty Baker said...

I'm pissed as shit.

karen said...

Not one of Kiki's best ABs.

karen said...

Um...ditto for JT....

The switch pitcher seems like he only throws junk.

QuadSevens said...

But his junk gets us out.

QuadSevens said...

Kid K works out of a jam in the 7th. Still tied at 1.

karen said...

YEP...AJ DO GOT KID's BACK!!!!!

Steve Sax said...

Baez, giving it all away

karen said...

Can you imagine this bullpen in the Post Season???

karen said...

No wonder we Dodgers fans are drunks, druggies, dealers, porn stars, pimps, whores, serial killers and used car salesman. How else are we expected to express our frustration?

QuadSevens said...

This is an ugly inning.

QuadSevens said...

Jim Johnson gets the final out of the 8th and we're tied again.

goodchild27 said...

Nice to see Yimi pitch well there.

I moved from NYC, where my mlb.tv account let me see all the non Mets games, to Las Vegas 11 days ago, and it turns out I'm blacked out of games here. I'm currently at the M casino watching the Oakland feed, which mlb.tv won't let me get at my new home. I feel like moving back to nyc ...

goodchild27 said...

I finally feEl the pain of all the LA fans who can't watch games even tho time warner isn't offered where they live ...

karen said...

I'll say it on behalf of all us:

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK THE WORLD

Steve Sax said...

Our bullpen sucks.

The Bundy Curse?

What the fuck was that?

QuadSevens said...

Just saw the replay. That blows.

QuadSevens said...

Wasted a great Kershaw start and an Ellis bomb. I wonder how many baseballs Kershaw threw around in the locker room.

Dusty Baker said...

@goodchild27

I feel like moving to a place where I can't watch the bullpen implode.

QuadSevens said...

The bullpen needs a good pep talk/ass kicking from Lasorda.

Being there sucked. Watching the bullpen collapse, again, really sucked. Walking back to BART, smelling that weird TAR smell really really sucked. Not having a Krispy Kreme to drowned my sorrows in after the game as I drove back to Fresno really really really sucked. The only thing that gave me any joy last night was the fact that I saw all those bullshit a's fans that left at the top of the 8th after AJ's HR. I imagine some were freaking out trying to get back in and the ushers were pushing them away...

Pride of Dong said...

8 hours till my Facebook probation ends...

All because in an article that was posted on FB about the protesters in Fresno protesting and blocking traffic, I asked, "How did they all get time off from work?" For that, a 3 day suspension...

spank said...

you da man,Dong. you da man.

I'm still pissed about this game. When I was doing the calculations, realizing I was gonna get to see Kersh, to arriving and them saying they only gave out 15K bobbleheads. To telling everyone I knew we were gonna see something special from the kid tonight. Being tired at work the next day. So many factors just went way wrong. THE FUCKING BULLPEN!!! Fuck, it's still raw man!
