News On Another Son of Steve Garvey

Looks like one of our brethren is leaving USC, after having a difficult time balancing baseball with academics:

Ryan Garvey, son of former Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres first baseman Steve Garvey, is leaving USC just months into his freshman year after the rigors of university academics overshadowed his desires.

“I was more worried about school than baseball, and my thing was to go there and play baseball,” Garvey said in a statement. The outfielder apparently spent hours on end studying trying to keep up with his course work.

Garvey will be transferring to Riverside Community College to finish out the year, and then will be eligible for June's MLB draft. Had he stayed at USC, he would have had to play three years before entering the draft.

Good luck to you, Ryan!

I'm not up on the draft entry rules, but why would he have to play 3 years at USC and only 1 at RCC before entering the draft?

Hey Ryan, try telling your excuse to the football players and water polo players who are constantly under a microscope and come from far underprivileged families yet still pull it off. Your decision is the equivalent to ordering a filet mignon and changing your order to spam. Congrats wasting your time at a community college and leaving a school people would kill to go to.
