Game 98 Thread: July 24 @ Mets, 4p

Possibly related to our starting pitcher.

Ian Thomas (0-1, 5.23) vs. Jon Niese (5-8, 3.36).

As a general rule, I don't trust people with two first names. (Three first names is even worse.) So Ian Thomas' first career big league start doesn't give me a lot of hope. Thomas joined the Dodgers in the Juan Uribe deal with the Braves earlier this season; he is 1-3 lifetime with a 4.71 ERA (including one loss with the Dodgers, taken on June 2 vs. Colorado). Meanwhile, the Giants open up yet another cushy series with the bottom-feeding A's.

One week to find ourselves another starter.

Whole lotta baby-related scratching going on. Niese may be scratched tonight.

Orel said...

That's gotta be a first. Baby Daddy vs. Baby Daddy

J.P. Hoornstra ‏@jphoornstra 13s

#Dodgers have been told that Jon Niese will start for the #Mets. No double baby scratch for now.

QuadSevens said...

There better be a twitter war over who's baby is cuter.

Steve Sax said...

Don't throw out the baby with the starting pitcher

Hideo Nomo said...

New lineup! AG scratched with new baby, uh, I mean back stiffness.

In the hoose as in at Citi?

Orel said...

Sweet, sweet revenge RBI double for Turner. 1-0 Dodgers

karen said...

Feeling a little edgy about our starting pitcher...

Orel said...

I can't imagine why, Karen.

Orel said...

By the way, sorry for disappearing on you during yesterday's game

Fred's Brim said...

@Orel, yes standing behind right field. I can't tell if it's on purpose or not but Joc over or underthrows his warmup throws with Puig a lot, too much to be an accident

Fred's Brim said...

Nice play by SVS

karen said...

Orel...I was hoping you were still in the house so I wasn't sweating out Clay's Perfecto alone...

Dusty Baker said...

I just double scratched.

karen said...

RA...no outs...

Orel said...

@FB, 4:22p: As in he's fucking with him?

Steve Sax said...

Bases loaded no out in the second, Thomas up

Orel said...

At least Ian is helping his own cause. 2-0 Dodgers

karen said...

3-0 on Joc's double...We need about 10 more for me to relax a little...

Orel said...

JocBI!

Steve Sax said...

We should have had more but I will take it

3-0 LA through 1.5

Fred's Brim said...

@Orel maybe, I saw it a few times last night too. Probably just a coincidence, but it's weird

Orel said...

A little passive-aggressive if true.

Orel said...

FB please go to Shake Shack for me

Turner HR! 4-0

Dusty Baker said...

Puig up out dis bish!!!

karen said...

As much as I miss the bubble machine and the guy responsible for it, I really enjoy the individual celebrations in the dugout on the homers...

Puig 2 run shot!!!

6-0 Blue

Orel said...

Almost feel bad for Niese here

Fred's Brim said...

Sooo 4 in the 4th?

karen said...

Almost but not quite, right?!

Orel said...

Alanna Rizzo does in-game interviews? Has this always been a thing?

karen said...

Beautiful breaking ball to K Granderson!!

Orel said...

Justin Turner will not be denied.

Steve Sax said...

Dodgers finally have a frame in which they don't score (the fourth inning). SVS leaves Turner at second

Turner is 3-for-3

Steve Sax said...

I went to Shake Shack when I visited Citi Field.

I expected more

Fred's Brim said...

I think I jinxed us, I hope we hang on

Steve Sax said...

Welcome Bode Nicholas Greinke!

Dusty Baker said...

What is this feeling sorry for Niese shit? WTF? We're not running a daisy farm here. Feel the hate already. Celebrate Karen's birthday and feel the hateHateHATE!!!

Steve Sax said...

@DB 5.17p: You know, Karen has been on pretty good behavior of late. And here you come to fuel the hate again!

Steve Sax said...

(just kidding, guys)

Orel said...

Dusty have you posted tomorrow's Daisy Thread yet?

Steve Sax said...

To fuel the hate: remember the J.D. Drew-also-out-at-the-plate playoff game vs. the Mets.

I was with Orel watching that game

I still have nightmares

Orel said...

That was a nightmarish postseason

Dusty Baker said...

Helluva good idea for a GT tomorrow, Orel.

(picks flowers)

Orel said...

Hairston fave!

Orel said...

Uh oh, Duda leadoff double

Orel said...

6-1

karen said...

@Dusty...Thank you for the birthday mention...Hoping my present is a Blue W...

@Saxy...I've been trying to be a good girl of late but, as always, I can't be responsible for my bad behavior when Our Boys play the evildoers!!!

Orel said...

It's Karen's birthday? Happy birthday, Karen! I'd send over a singing spongeworthy telegram if I could.

karen said...

Ian Thomas was a pleasant surprise...Hoping that a 5 run lead is enough for our arson squad...

karen said...

...and I deserve a singing Sponge Worthy if I do say so myself!!!

Steve Sax said...

I have to admit, Ian Thomas was pretty good there. Five innings of one-run ball.

And now it's Peralta.

Steve Sax said...

Happy 21st Birthday Karen!

karen said...

Thanks Saxy...I think I'll stick at 21!!

karen said...

Bullpen starting fires right on schedule

Steve Sax said...

Peralta is so darn bad. It is pathetic.

Orel said...

Bullpen magic. 6-2

Steve Sax said...

Why Peralta? Why?

Steve Sax said...

And shave that damn chin, Joel

karen said...

Maybe the Front Office can trade for Drew Butera as our 5th pitcher...

Steve Sax said...

Austin Barnes and the yellow nail polish

Steve Sax said...

Peralta looks so rattled, he's a traveling wilbury

Steve Sax said...

The thing is, even Peralta's outs were hit hard. We gotta get rid of this guy

Steve Sax said...

I5.66 ERA for the bullpen in July. Great.

Steve Sax said...

^5.66

Orel said...

Nicasio, my hero. For now.

Steve Sax said...

Good job, Nicasio. Comes in to fan Duda on five pitches, stranding two.

6-2 through 6
