Thanks (again!) to tireless SoSG reader Julie Hibbard for the heads up!
Random rantings and ravings about the Los Angeles Dodgers, written by a small consortium of rabid Dodger fans. With occasional comments on baseball, entertainment, pop culture, and life in general.
To be honest, it seemed to me that mcr had a pretty solid argument for going with Column E last round. And if not Column E, then at least Column D would have forced the Writers into a defense move, after which you could pick up on the Column E strategy anew. But the people have spoken, and Column F it is. Why Column F? I think I know - you all want to prolong the game because it's so much frickin' fun! So your wish has been granted, and on we go to the next round...
Okay, so Round 5 was indeed a no-brainer for the Readers despite my attempts to convince otherwise (you guys are too damn sharp!). Column E not only provided the block, but it also forced the Writers into a defensive move in Column B. Are the Readers now moving to the offensive?
P.S. Can you imagine if we kept this at one round per week as originally planned?
After yesterday's landslide decision and associated discussion, I saw the mandate to reassess how things are run around here. As a certain scholar once deconstructed (whether or not that scholar now writes for a certain Dodger blog will remain undisclosed), the first move in Connect Four is paramount. So in the interest of fairness, I am proposing a tweak to the standard C4 rules. Here is my proposal:
If, by the end of the thirteenth (13) round, The Writers have failed to force a victory, The Readers will be granted two (2) consecutive moves to presumably end the game. In the unlikely event that the two moves do not end the game, The Writers will then be granted two consecutive moves, and so forth, until one side forces a victory.
Where did I come up with this? I just made it up right now. Why the thirteenth round, and not the twelfth or fourteenth? Thirteen sounded good. In anycase, with these new rules, we (The Writers) must play for the win, while The Readers can win by playing defense long enough. I have no idea how this will play out, but I guess we'll find out. Make your move, Readers:
On any other day, the Connect Four vote below would be the most important ballot you cast today. But as you well know, there's another little election happening today: Proposition M vs Proposition CC. Fortunately there's nothing preventing you from participating in two different contests on the same day. So make your move, Readers:
If ever two Connect Four columns deserved a win, it was last round, where Quad's Column F and Neeebs' and Steve's Column D waged an epic battle. Both columns left it all out on the post, but only one could emerge triumphant: Column F.
On to Round 3!
Yes, I know just yesterday I said Connect Four would be played on Thursdays. But a sudden cancellation of a business trip has left me with some unexpected free time, as well as an oddly powerful desire to get this game past the opening stages. So last round, you folks picked Column C in a landslide. The Game Board has been updated accordingly, as well as with the Writers' subsequent move. On to Round 2!
Finally, C-4 Thursdays have arrived! Yes...without any meaningful baseball for the next five months, the SoSG staff is re-channeling their competitive juices by hereby throwing down the gauntlet to their readership in a no-holds barred game of Connect Four. Here's how it works:
