Softball Update
We are the no ringers team, the essence of beer league softball purity. We wear Pop's number not for reflected glory, but because we are proud to be a scrawny leaf on the mighty Dad tree. Dad is no doubt secretly disappointed in us, but admires our gumption and beer-swilling.

A note from Mike Brown. Please note there are two registration links: one at WePay (for payment), and one at theLFP.com (for rosters).
The registration page is up and it is a whole lot easier this time around. When you players sign up for your teams they will be buying a ticket. All they have to do is print it out and bring out to the park the day of the event. The rules are the same as last time and you can find them on the LFP site on the Tournament page. I did not invite back that ringer team who slipped in so I'm hoping we will have a more competitive tournament.

Who's Up for More Softball?
M. Brown from theLFP.com is at it again, planning another Dodger Blogger Softball Tournament for Saturday, September 29, at Big League Dreams in West Covina.
Loyal readers will recall that the SoSG softball crew in February played valiantly until the end and drained many beers throughout. It should be no different in September if we can rally enough players to field a team.
So: indicate your potential interest in the comments and let's see if we can whip together another merry band!
(P.S.: The Rockies are at Dodger Stadium that day — time TBD.)

Gotta Catch 'em All! (Pack 5)
Ah, beer: the tenth man. Starting at 9AM, our drink pitchers (not to be confused with our drinking pitcher) held the likes of Newcastle, Pacifico, Stella Artois, Dos Equis, Budweiser, Coors.... I could go on and on, and I did.
There I am, lard at work.
Proof positive that Team SoSG did in fact hold the lead at one point!
Weisman vs. Baly!

REDEMPTION!
Who's up for another softball tournament? The park emailed me back today with their only available Saturday this season. Sadly it is not till Sept 29th. That will also be the last home stand for the Dodgers.
We're down, right? A tourney that conflicts with actual Dodger baseball might be a tougher draw, but should still be a blast!
(starts stretching already)
Gotta Catch 'em All! (Pack 4)
John G brought the sexy. The Official Clothier of Team SoSG (look out, Botany 500!), he helped shore up our middle infield (second base and shortstop) and held his own in the trash-talking department as well (I believe the phrase "denim thunder" escaped his lips).
The first Son on the scene. Thanks to Josh, you found out we were losing the game — during the game. How about these kids and their mobile devices? Josh was blogging from the dugout, and I approve. Josh also spelled CVF at catcher, providing Neeebs with a bigger backstop than the backstop itself. There were no passed balls under his watch.
CVF drove down from Fresno, so Mr. C takes second place in distance traveled by driving up from San Diego. Is that dedication or what? On the field, he plugged up the middle of the infield at second base, bravely keeping hot smashes in front of him. And between games, he displayed some positively Son-like beer consumption.

Gotta Catch 'em All! (Pack 3)
If the Pope's in town and you hear somebody trash-talking him, it's probably Bobby. He trash-talked on the field, from the dugout, between games, you name it. He even trash-talked teams we weren't playing — just ask the Dodger Thoughts team. Oh, and he also played some shortstop and first base.
DBT played left-center field but really had some adventures on the basepaths. He smacked a sweet RBI triple early on, but things really got interesting in our last game. He was on first base when Stacy hit an opposite-field line drive — right into DBT. He describes it as "a cannonball in the gut." We call it taking one for the team.
You currently know him as Cliff Beefpile; we knew him as el montanero. EM locked down right field, and look at that batting form! You have to understand those loopy, spinning softball pitches aren't easy to hit, so making contact is a big deal. I think even Cliff Beefpile would agree.

Gotta Catch 'em All! (Pack 2)
MVP! MVP! MVP! He's a five-tool player: hits, runs, fields, drinks beer, recruits ringers (see below). He patrolled left field — Johnny B's glove is where right-handed fly balls go to die. And his bat spawns hits like Michelle Duggar pumps out kids. When we do this again, the team starts with him.
Can you say ringer? We started Shay at first base, but, uh, not enough balls were being thrown her way. So we switched her to the hot corner, where she fearlessly smacked down line drives hit her way. Oh yeah, she also has a mean bat and was our most knowledgeable base coach. Go Shay!
Another ringer! Stacy brought it all to the team: she covered a ton of territory in right-center field, she got it done with the bat, and she had speed on the basepaths. And did I mention she was a ray of sunshine in our dugout? Great job, Stacy!

Gotta Catch 'em All! (Pack 1)
After discharging his fatherly duties, rbnlaw became a late-tourney pickup, an innovative signing by our GM in an attempt to inject some fresh energy into the team. Thrown immediately into the fire, he wasted no time in flashing bat and glove to defend the good name of SoSG.
Scott Proctor to my Joe Torre, neeebs heroically pitched all three of our games, pounding the strike zone all day long. Despite being squeezed more than a roll of Charmin in a trash compactor, his composure on the mound never wavered. It's a shame how our health insurance plan doesn't cover arm reattachment surgery.
Dedication? Dude was on the road at 4AM, driving from Fresno to West Covina to join us. Dedication? CVF provided a steady backstop for neeebs' pitches and was prepared to sacrifice his body to protect the plate. Dedication? We were floored by his amazing personal story of perseverance. Check out Central Valley Fan's ThinkCure! fundraising page.

Veni, Vidi, Ouchie
Did we conquer our opponents? We did not. Did we consume many pitchers of beer? We did. Becoming the Houston Astros of the 2012 Blogger Softball Tournament did little to hide the fact that thirteen of us had a blast on Saturday and compensated for our lack of scoring with a surfeit of trash-talking.
I'll pay tribute to our illustrious team members in a later post, but a few notes first:
- Thanks and congratulations to Mike Brown of theLFP.com for organizing such a successful event, and for a good cause to boot (see below). Plus, I think one of his teams won the tournament!
- Thanks also to team photographers and morale boosters Mrs. Orel and Diamond for their support and good cheer! It was also great meeting some of Josh's and rbnlaw's families.
- Dusty (DNP - barfed lung) and Paul (DNP - MIA), we missed ya! Email us your mailing address and we'll get your shirts to you.
- Speaking of T-shirts...a few readers have asked how they can get one. Since the tournament benefited the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, how about this: we'll send a T-shirt to the first three readers who donate $20 or more to the LAFB. Just forward us your email confirmation and you can choose from size XL or L
or S. (Thanks to John G for the idea!)
UPDATE: One shirt spoken for! Two gone!
More to come!
