Dodgers strike first. 1-0 after 1

Orel said...

Utley triple and/or double + error makes it 3-0 in the 2nd!

Orel said...

Seager RBI single makes it 4-0!

spank said...

DeLeon gives up a homerun. 4-1

Orel said...

Huge solo HR by some Yankee I can't identify. 4-1

Orel said...

Wait, Starlin Castro is on the Yankees now?

spank said...

next batter walks. Ruh-oh

spank said...

Hedley

Orel said...

Grandal single, Red Dick double, Howie RBI bunt single makes it 5-1

Orel said...

Joc's had some shitty ABs today

Orel said...

Bad throw to second scores Reddick. 6-1

Orel said...

Joc's D still works, though

Steve Sax said...

We are up 6-1 through 3?! Wow that's surprising

Steve Sax said...

Wow, check out the MLB.com videos: the huge Dodger crowd contingent at Yankee Stadium actually did a roll call for the Dodgers (like the Yankees do). The announcers were dumbfounded. Cool!

Steve Sax said...

6-1 LA, mid-five

Orel said...

When JDL allows a HR, he ALLOWS A HR. 6-2

Orel said...

Dodgers fans do a roll call

Steve Sax said...

6-2 on the Judge leadoff HR in the bottom of the fifth

Steve Sax said...

sanchez Ks to end the inning, 6-2 through 5.

Steve Sax said...

Steve Sax said...

Steve Sax said...

Orel said...

Stay safe, Sax!

Steve Sax said...

Steve Sax said...

Okay, now I'm REALLY leaving the office

Orel said...

Stay safe, Sax!

Steve Sax said...

Dodgers win!

Giants lose!

Sax is safe with Racer 5 beer in hand!

Enjoyable time at the park last night, Pantone 294 in full effect. It was like a european soccer match

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

FB you were in the park? Explain this whole roll call thing. i don't get it.

QuadSevens said...

Are they going to be back for today's game too? It was pretty cool seeing all the coverage they got on tv.

QuadSevens said...

I was wondering the same thing DBT. This sounds like a pretty cool tradition.

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

Thanks for the link Quad! That's a great tradition and proud of those Dodgers fans who took it upon themselves to roll call the Blue Crew. That took some balls!

I listed to the Yanks broadcast on AtBat and the Stadium mic is really loud in the mix. The energy of the dodger fans really comes through.

Fred's Brim said...

Thanks Q7! It was definitely cool to see that at Yankee Stadium. The Dodger fans seemed extra loud because there weren't many total fans there

And it definitely helps to be rolling 1,300 deep. You can be be brave in any stadium with those numbers!

Orel said...

FB, did all the Dodger players respond to their names being called? Looks like Night Moves did in the clip linked above but I imagine some players might not know the tradition?

Orel said...

Got it. From a NYT article:

Around the field they went: Andrew Toles, Joc Pederson and Josh Reddick across the outfield and Justin Turner, Corey Seager, Chase Utley and Adrian Gonzalez around the diamond. All but Utley, ever the spoilsport, appeared to recognize them.

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

The spoilsport also spoiled that shift in the first inning and had a solid overall game.

Orel said...

The Silver Spoilsport!

Steve Sax said...

GAME 2
Kendrick, 3B
Turner, DH
Seager, SS
Puig, LF
Gonzalez, 1B
Ruiz, C
Hernandez, CF
Segedin, RF
Utley, 2B

Urias, J (5-2, 3.69 ERA)

QuadSevens said...

No problem on the link guys. That NY Times was pretty cool. I like how Gardner acknowledged that the Pantone 294 group was pretty rowdy and created a good atmosphere.

Pride of Dong said...

Just heard Vin won't call play off games this year, last game he calls is October 2nd. I need a minute now...

Steve Sax said...

sounds like Puig hurt himself on a swing in the first inning? ugh

Fred's Brim said...

Urias done for 2016?

Orel said...

Why is Puig still in this game?

Fred's Brim said...

I know how this games ends. I think I've been to this game before, a disappointing de ja vu

Orel said...

shit

Orel said...

Jacoby & Didi go back-to-back. 2-0 Yanks

Fred's Brim said...

Still nobody up in the bullpen. Doc going down with the ship I guess

Fred's Brim said...

On the bright side, Clippard is in.
On the downside, Reddick is up

Orel said...

Two innings left. Let's see what this team is made of

Fred's Brim said...

Sheezus

Orel said...

3-0

Fred's Brim said...

Sure hope Clayton's not still rusty tomorrow

Orel said...

Do we lose 3-1 or 3-2?

Orel said...

3-0 it is!

Orel said...

Giants blow a 3-run lead in the 9th! Division lead stays at 4, magic number is 15

Steve Sax said...

Wow. SF had two out in the ninth and a 1-2 coins and gave up a three-run HR

Giants fans booed

Steve Sax said...

Giants gave up five runs in the ninth, turning a 4-1 lead into a 6-4 loss

Hideo Nomo said...

AS I mentioned on Twitter, I 100% thought the 4-1 score in the SD/SF game was a final. (I was off Twitter for a good while after the Dodgers lost.) Then a little bit later, Eric Stephen tweeted out that the magic number was now 15, and I thought, "What, did Eric fuck up?" Then I got caught up and was pleasantly surprised.

Hideo Nomo said...

As miserable as the Padres are, they are always REALLY GOOD at being a thorn in the Giants' side.

Orel said...

GAME 3
Utley 2B
Seager SS
Turner 3B
Gonzalez 1B
Grandal C
Reddick RF
Ethier DH
Pederson CF
Toles LF
(Kershaw P)

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

The Dodgers entered yesterday's game last in baseball in batting average (.215) and OPS (.633) against lefties.

It's time to admit that the Dodgers' righty/lefty strategy sucks and they should stack an all lefty lineup the next time they face a southpaw. You gotta try something, right?!?!

Fred's Brim said...

FB heading uptown for game 3, let's win one today

Fred's Brim said...

Poor Spank, that has to be your version of hell.

Fred's Brim said...

Good call DBT, anything has to be better

Orel said...

Stay safe, FB!

Steve Sax said...

0-0 through 2.

1-1 in SF, B4

Orel said...

RANCHO ARDIENDO

Steve Sax said...

A-Gon works an 0-2 count into a eight-pitch walk, with one out. And then Yaz doubles (but A-Gon doesn't score, sadly).

One out, second and third, top 4

Steve Sax said...

reddick rancho ardiendos due to catcher interference?!?!?

Okay, I'll take it. Here's Andre

Steve Sax said...

Ethier, you fucking idiot. GIDP.

Orel said...

and Ethier GIDP. Wah wah wah

spank said...

yay Ethier! you piece of crap.

Steve Sax said...

And, there's a rain delay. I blame Ethier

Steve Sax said...

Should we break Ethier's other leg?

Steve Sax said...

Padres take a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth. Man on second with two out

Steve Sax said...

If there's a rain delay, Roberts will probably pull Kershaw (no-hitter through three)

And put in Rich Hill

spank said...

Let's break Ethier's face.

Steve Sax said...

when is pederson going to start hitting again

Steve Sax said...

Padres have a man on third with one out, T7, up 2-1

Steve Sax said...

And we're in another rain delay in NY.

Pads have men at the corners with two out

Steve Sax said...

Padres score again. 3-1 SD, first and second with two out

Steve Sax said...

still in delay, so we're flipping back to the SD@SF game. B7, Pence just singled and stole second with one out.

Steve Sax said...

2Ks got the Padres out of the inning. 3-1, T8

Steve Sax said...

SD threatens but nothing to show for it, 3-1 mid-8

Steve Sax said...

four straight Ks for the Giants, who have struck out twice to start off the bottom of the eighth

Steve Sax said...

Denard Span gets a two-out walk, then is picked off first base to end the inning.

3-1 SD through 8

Steve Sax said...

are we back on in NY? Looks like Kershaw is out to pitch the bottom of the fifth?

Orel said...

gives up two straight hits

Steve Sax said...

Oh no. First and second, none out for Clayton, B5

Steve Sax said...

Orel: actually the first one (Castro) was an error

Steve Sax said...

Kershaw gets Refsnyder for the second out. Fifth K for KKKKKershaw

Steve Sax said...

come on, Clayton

Steve Sax said...

Giants lose. Dodgers take a 4.5 game lead

Steve Sax said...

Dammit, A-gon GIDPs. 0-0 through 5.5

Steve Sax said...

Dayton strikes out the side in the sixth

Steve Sax said...

this game feels a lot like last night's game. i reckon we will lose late

Steve Sax said...

Roberts makes the right move, pulling Baez with two on and two out, and going to Avilan, who Ks Brian McCann to end the inning. 0-0 through 7

Steve Sax said...

Wonder if FB is still at the game

Steve Sax said...

i am losing patience with Joc Pederson. 0-for-3 with 2 Ks

Steve Sax said...

wow the dodgers are dying in short order. three hits through eight innings, 0-0 Mid8

Steve Sax said...

Ellsbury Ks to end the 8th.

Steve Sax said...

0-0 through 8. Dodgers have three hits; Yankees two.

Steve Sax said...

NOBODY WANTS THIS GAME

Steve Sax said...

seager with a leadoff reach-on-castro-error

Steve Sax said...

seager steale second! JT up with none out

Steve Sax said...

JT scores a run?

Steve Sax said...

JT scores a run!

Steve Sax said...

who is injured? Oh no, Turner is hurt at second.

Steve Sax said...

1-0 LA

Steve Sax said...

Dammit, Andre, it's called DESIGNATED HITTER, not DESIGNATED OUT-GENERATOR

Steve Sax said...

2=0 LA through 8.5. Dodgers get a second run when Yaz grounds into a fielder's choice and Yankees P Betances makes a throwing error.

Orel said...

Ethier is a great DOG

Orel said...

WIN

Steve Sax said...

DODGERS WIN!

magic number = 13

Fred's Brim said...

Fun and nervous times at the stadium last night
I still can't understand how they brought Clayton back for the 5th, unless he threatened to go get back surgery if Doc didn't let him go back out.

Fred's Brim said...

Dre's only non-zero numbers are At-Bats, Ks and GIDPs
