Stubbs Tags In

Well, before all else, I'd like to thank all the original-flavor Sons for inviting the three of us newbies into the fold. This place is remarkable in a lot of ways, starting with the guys that brought it all together. I'm profoundly flattered to become part of that. I'm also compelled to give some well-deserved praise to my fellow Stepsons Dusty Baker and Nomo, who helped change the game threads from something I read and enjoyed into something I actively participated in on game nights.

When I first started posting here, it was a combination of the puzzles and the irreverent commentary that drew me in. I'd been a regular over Jon Weisman's Dodger Thoughts when it was hosted by Ken Arneson's (sorely missed) Baseball Toaster. While I stayed a reader once he moved on to bigger and better things, I found that I lacked a place to hang my metaphorical hat. I eventually found Sax, Orel, AC, and Delino (not to mention the dearly departed) here running just that sort of operation.

As I'm sure regulars are all-too-well-aware, I have a bit of a sardonic streak. While this has been eminently useful during the last few lean years, I ultimately prefer to look at things from a more balanced perspective. I've always stuck with the boys in blue, whether they be bombers or bums and I've been coming to Dodger Stadium since I was old enough to see over the back of the seats, so I've seen my share of each, and everything in between. The greatest virtue of a community like we have here is that it makes those victories sweeter, but it also makes any defeats much more endurable.

So, what can you expect from me? I'll be taking the helm of the PCS and various other frivolities. If it's silly and/or trivial, Stubbs is your guy. But don't think I won't throw in the occasional game thread or diatribe on occasion, just to keep you guys on your toes. In short, it's an honor to be included here, and I look forward to enjoying the SoSG experience from within the gooey, creme-filled center as much as I did as part of the crunchy candy commenter shell.

And it's also that same irreverent commentary that keeps you here, too.

Cheers, Stubbs! Let's go ask our new dad to borrow the car.

Shit, pops just borrowed my car an hour ago.

He's probably halfway to Mexico by now.

Good stuff, Stubbsypus.

We just lost Jamie Hoffmann.

Again.

Franklin Stubbs said...

And to the Rockies, sadly. He's totally going to go all Jeromy Burnitz on our asses.

Dusty Baker said...

Hopefully Ned can drum up some LHWGs and MSBs at the Winter Meetings to help fill out our roster.

Dusty Baker said...

Also saw that we are getting close to a deal with Aaron Harang. He fits the bill as a LHWG.

I expect at least one more retread pitcher, anyway.

I'm resigned to Harang, I guess.

I saw Jamie Hoffman playing last week, he had his first season hit in Venezuela: a huge 3-run home run. Next day, he was an Aguilas killer in the most opportune moment.

*cries*

Looking forward to your posts, Mr. Stubbs

I was in the Yard when Hoffmann got his first HR, according to my game notes. Now that has less meaning for me. It will have ten less when he jacks one out against us.

At first I thought I read Stubbs' comment to say "I expect at least one more retired pitcher, anyway" and the sad part is that it didn't surprise me.

I'm getting the sense that Ned's just hoping everyone else in the West has an AWFUL year.

Which, thankfully, is entirely possible.

Dusty Baker said...

I'm hoping the Gnats have an AWFUL year, to be sure.

Franklin Stubbs said...

Even after years of dedicated observation, I'm not sure I have ANY idea what Ned might be hoping.

(Revises draft of first post)

@FB

The thought process needs to go beyond that?

(cries)

Hideo Nomo said...

There's a thought process?

Dusty Baker said...

From SoSG Fest I:

Nancy Bea: I don't ever comment on anything because I don't have anything to say.

Us, in unison: We don't, either!

Dusty Baker said...

So rotation would likely be 1 Kershaw, 2 Billingsley, 3 Lilly, 4 Harang, 5 Capuano.

Not worst idea in the room, considering.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Two years for the Harangutan. Expected. Dodgers have to give two-year deals to almost everyone to make a decent average annual salary while still keeping payroll low for 2012.

Dusty Baker said...

(ducks back under desk)

Franklin Stubbs said...

I'll take it if it means we're not relying solely on Capuano's bubblegum-and-duct-tape elbow.

Dusty Baker said...

We managed to use the words "duct" and "duck" in successive posts.

Franklin Stubbs said...

Dutch door posts!

Franklin Stubbs said...

(Not to be confused with Dutch doorposts)

Franklin Stubbs said...

(...or Dutch ovens)

Hideo Nomo said...

I gots the duckets.

Dusty Baker said...

I wonder if Dan Duquette will do well in Baltimore?
