Wedding 1 Thread: Sept. 28, 6p

Stubbs (0-0, -.—ERA) and Karina (0-0, -.—ERA)

Épale!

Many of you may already know that our very own SoSG brother Stubbs (née Mr. Customer) and one of our longtime, most loyal readers, Karina (Our Lady of Perpetual Optimism), are getting married. To each other! And today is their special day. The Sons are proud and honored to welcome Karina to the family, and full of pride for our dear brother Stubbs as he takes this great step in life.

It warms the heart of the SoSG family to know that this snark-filled pit of undying Dodger love, originally conceived as a way for a small group of friends located in different parts of the country to communicate about Dodger games and their shared love for the Boys in Blue, has now had the effect of actually bringing two real live people together in (mostly) holy matrimony. Even more amazing is that Karina hails from a country far, far away yet still found a way not only to follow her beloved Dodgers day or night, electrical grid blackout or no, while at the same time meeting her life match in Stubbs.

Orel, Sax, Delino, Nomo, AC, and I, together with our departed brethren EK, Lasorda, and Pedro Guerrero, and our millions of loyal readers, wish a lifetime of happiness to Karina and Stubbs (hopefully to include a World Series win!). May your lives forever be full of rancho ardiendos. Cheers, mazel tov, y feliz matrimonio!

Note: Regrettably yours truly is ill, and unable to make the event. Rumor is that other Sons may, so hopefully we’ll here updates from them. Regardless, feel free to use this thread to leave your good wishes and/or snark for the happy couple!

Practice Drills Pregame Day 2

Here are some pictures from pregame day 2.  We watched a lot of practice which for some would sound boring, but for us was pretty interesting.  There are some bleachers behind one of the fields and stone steps behind the other major practice field which gave you a nice vantage point.  It was neat seeing them run between the fields and the batting cages going through the various drills.  With such a big group, I can see why the need an air horn to signal the switching of stations and the need for so many coaches.

Stubbs Tags In

Well, before all else, I'd like to thank all the original-flavor Sons for inviting the three of us newbies into the fold. This place is remarkable in a lot of ways, starting with the guys that brought it all together. I'm profoundly flattered to become part of that. I'm also compelled to give some well-deserved praise to my fellow Stepsons Dusty Baker and Nomo, who helped change the game threads from something I read and enjoyed into something I actively participated in on game nights.

When I first started posting here, it was a combination of the puzzles and the irreverent commentary that drew me in. I'd been a regular over Jon Weisman's Dodger Thoughts when it was hosted by Ken Arneson's (sorely missed) Baseball Toaster. While I stayed a reader once he moved on to bigger and better things, I found that I lacked a place to hang my metaphorical hat. I eventually found Sax, Orel, AC, and Delino (not to mention the dearly departed) here running just that sort of operation.

As I'm sure regulars are all-too-well-aware, I have a bit of a sardonic streak. While this has been eminently useful during the last few lean years, I ultimately prefer to look at things from a more balanced perspective. I've always stuck with the boys in blue, whether they be bombers or bums and I've been coming to Dodger Stadium since I was old enough to see over the back of the seats, so I've seen my share of each, and everything in between. The greatest virtue of a community like we have here is that it makes those victories sweeter, but it also makes any defeats much more endurable.

So, what can you expect from me? I'll be taking the helm of the PCS and various other frivolities. If it's silly and/or trivial, Stubbs is your guy. But don't think I won't throw in the occasional game thread or diatribe on occasion, just to keep you guys on your toes. In short, it's an honor to be included here, and I look forward to enjoying the SoSG experience from within the gooey, creme-filled center as much as I did as part of the crunchy candy commenter shell.
