Your Dodgers Factoid Of The Day: James Loney, Freed

Thanks to SoSG regular Paul for pointing out this tidbit: James Loney is having a great year in Tampa Bay.

James Loney's OPS of .985 (37-for-96, with 11 doubles and 1 HR) is north of every Dodger with the exception of Hanley Ramirez (OPS of 1.409). The Dodgers infielders' OPS (leaving out small sample sizes of Dee Gordon and Elian Herrera):

  • Nick Punto, .926
  • Adrian Gonzalez, .898
  • Mark Ellis, .815
  • Juan Uribe, .711
  • Jerry Hairston, .657
  • Justin Sellers, .517
  • Skip Schumacher, .486
  • Luis Cruz, .204

Holy smokes, there's a lot of power outages there.

Your Dodgers Factoid Of The Day: The View From The Cellar

The Dodgers sit in last place in the NL West, 6.0 games out. But the good news is, all five of the other divisions have greater gaps from the cellar to first:

  • Chicago White Sox, 6.5 GB Detroit
  • Chicago Cubs, 7.5 GB St. Louis
  • Toronto Blue Jays, 8.5 GB Boston
  • Miami Marlins, 10.0 GB Atlanta
  • Houston Astros, 11.0 GB Texas

Less ground to make up! More happiness ensues!

Your Dodgers Factoid Of The Day: The Schu Fits

From Jayson Stark's recent ESPN.com column:

Astounding Fact of the Week

Always-entertaining Dodgers utility whiz Skip Schumaker took the mound last week for his second career pitching appearance -- and again hit 90 miles per hour on the local radar guns. Which inspired this fun tidbit, via Brooks Baseball's handy Pitch f/x tool:

• Skip Schumaker since 2007: 46 pitches, hit 90-plus 10 times.

• Barry Zito since 2007: 17,469 pitches, hit 90-plus zero times.

As always, this is a 100 percent true fact -- the only kind we provide at World Rumblings Headquarters.

Your Dodgers Factoid of the Day: Slow Play Day

Wednesday's 7-3 dirge against Colorado, at 3:54, was the longest nine-inning game that the Dodgers had played since June 11, 2012 (a 3-2 loss vs. the Angels, which was 3:59).

Having been at this Wednesday game (and, strangely enough, also the June 11, 2012 game; maybe it's me who is slowing time?), I can tell you, it was like having thumb screws.

On your eyeballs.

While someone poured rubbing alcohol on them.

Flaming rubbing alcohol.

I blame Josh Beckett.
