Resign Nomar?

Ok, Nomar's contract is up. Had a great first half of the season, but the injury bug continued to hamper him after the All-Star break. Of course, he did come up with some HUGE hits down the stretch (which by the way is what he needs to do more of in the off season - stretch, man, stretch!). Is Loney a good enough replacement? Or do we go after Soriano for 2nd base, and switch Kent to 1st?

Should we re-sign Nomar? Or should Nomar resign?

Nomar would be an expensive insurance policy for our infield, especially if it will take a lonbg multi-year deal to keep him a Dodger. But a Loney swoon, or Kent injury, or Betemit slump, seem inevitable. If we can get him for $8-9M a year, it may be a discount over the course of 162 games...

What more does Loney have to do to prove his Studliness? Crucial game down the stretch? 9 RBIs. Playoffs? Team leader in RBIs. Gold Glove-caliber defense.

I have seen the future, and the future is James Loney.

Hmmmm. So the Dodgers should make a commitment to Loney based on the sample size of 4 or 5 games? Paging Tuffy Rhodes.

Granted, the kid hit the snot out of the ball at AAA, but Las Vegas and the rest of the PCL is pretty hitter-friendly. Let's not annoint Loney (or excommunicate Nomar) just yet.

Don't get me wrong, I wuv Nomar--"Sax" and I were at the last home game of the season where he hit that walk-off grand slam and it was the most exciting Dodger game I've attended--but there's no logical place for an injury-prone infielder who nonetheless might have played himself into a multi-year contract.
