Here it is! The match-up so exciting, I couldn't even concentrate enough to finish the graphic bracket! That, and I forgot my flash drive containing my SoSG content. Quad vs. Jason in a Louisa May Alcott/FDR slap fight!

SoSG March Madness: Elite 8 Comment Time!

The MLASC-inclusive Elite 8 starts...NOW!

Preseason Game 16 Thread: March 18 vs. Angels, 1p

Didn't we already beat these douchebags 9-1 recently? How much more punishment do they want?

I believe some SoSG readers have been at some Spring Training games over the weekend. We'd love if you guys would weigh in with your thoughts and on-the-ground reports from Camelback Ranch.

As we all traipse around the Assassins' Circle Pub, drinking down the swill at the bottom of unfinished pints from last night, let's settle in for an afternoon of baseball, hair of the dog, March Madness, and overtime of the SoSG March Madness game. Your day is already planned!

The Sweet 16 15 Round of SoSG March Madness is in the books.

Well, almost in the books. Neeebs and MLASC managed to tie in the first round, so there is a small matter of overtime to resolve before we can start the elite 8 round.  Sometime between 8am and 10pm on Monday, there will be a single, winner-take-all FDR Regional Semifinals Overtime Post to settle the tie, and then we'll be off to the Elite 8 round.

The results so far:

Clooney Region

• Hideo Nomo (1) went bi
• Spank (2) def. Fernie V (3) by 2:44

Alcott Region

• Jason (1) def. Karina (4) by default
• Eugenio's Streak (2) def. Steve K (3) by default

FDR Region

• MLASC (1) def. Neeebs (4) by concession.
• QuadSevens (3) def. Dusty Baker's Toothpick (2) by default

Freeman Region

• Eric Karros (4) def. Johnny Blanchard (1) by 4:21
• Wicks (2) def. Steve K (3) by 1:52

The Elite 8 will officially start immediately at the end of the overtime round, and run through Wednesday, March 21. Watch for comment thread posts somewhere in that window.

Update 3/18 - Results updated to show MLASC moving on.

SoSG March Madness 2012: Final Registration Thread

So, Selection Sunday happened. It's time for SoSG to set it's brackets, as well.  There are still two slots open, as of this moment. As it stands, MLASC and SoSG's own Hideo Nomo are scheduled to skate through to the Elite 8 by default. If there are any readers out there that dream of being George Mason to Nomo's UConn, you have until midnight Tuesday to get into the field.

Here are the brackets, as they stand today.

The Sweet 16 Round (both first and second halves) will post sometime March 15 or 16. Remember, posting times are random, so be vigilant!

Update 3/13: Neeebs is in with the #15 seed. One more spot available!

SoSG March Madness Registration Still Open

The top seeds are set, but there are still a lot of spots to fill! Sign up in this thread (or the previous one, if you have issues with authority). Don't miss an opportunity to put one of the following big-name commenters in their place with a stunning early round upset!

1. Hideo Nomo
2. Mr. LA Sport Czar
3. Jason
4. Johnny Blanchard
5. Spank
6. Dusty Baker's Toothpick
7. Eugenio's Streak
8. Wicks
9. Steve K
10. Paul
11. QuadSevens
12. Fernie V
13. Eric Karros

Registration will remain open at least through Friday.

Update 3/9: Bumped to the top of the page. I'm still looking for at least 4 more readers (or Sons) with late-winter-early-spring-lunacy and a thirst for SoSG schwag.

SoSG March Madness 2012 Signup!

You knew it was coming.

You know the rules already. You know that Erin's glorious victory in 2011 earned her some Caribbean beverages of debatable deliciousness.

The insanity will start next week, so sign up here to get your fill! Seedings will be based on sign-up order, so getting on board early may just spare you the embarrassment of an opening round loss to Virginia Commonwealth.

Registration will be open to Sons this year (other than myself) who want to participate for bragging rights*

*In case of a Son's win, the prize package defaults to the highest finishing reader. But come on, you don't want a championship controversy! I'm counting on you guys to beat us down ruthlessly.
