Athletics Sign Ben Sheets To One-Year Deal (MLBTR)
So the Dodgers took a look but the eventual price tag of $10-plus million was too much for them in the end. While a few free-agent pitchers still remain, I'm preparing myself for another season of a hopefully healthy foursome (Kuroda, Billingsley, Kershaw, Padilla) plus a rotating fifth spot.
The Dodgers are reportedly watching the recently rehabbed Ben Sheets today, but according to MLBTR, they're not alone:
Here's a list of teams that will be on hand this week to see for themselves.
- Nationals
- Diamondbacks
- Cubs (by the way, we're not on board with the rumor that Sheets is "all but signed" by them)
- Rangers
- Cardinals
- Blue Jays
- Dodgers
- Brewers
- Mets
- Don't rule out the Yankees, Orioles or Mariners.
- The Angels will not be there this Tuesday.
Sheets claims to feel " 'refreshed' and 'fantastic,' " but the number of teams bidding for his services will be the true test of his health. And if the Dodgers end up signing Sheets, SoSG will post about it. Be sure to click on the "Ben Sheets" label to learn Sheets' thread count.
AP Newswires just posted that the Dodgers' opponent in our April 2 season opener will be Ben Sheets, who will start for the Brewers in Milwaukee.
The Brewers start April 2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Sheets started four openers in a row before beginning last season on the disabled list and missing half the season with shoulder problems. He finished last year 6-7 with a 3.82 ERA. PHOENIX (AP) - Brewers ace Ben Sheets will pitch the season opener for the fifth time in his career.
As reported a month ago, Sheets will face Derek Lowe for the Dodgers.
