Blake Snell (5-4, 2.35) vs. Jesus Luzardo (15-7, 3.92).
Fellow SoSGers, I confess that I missed NLDS Game 1.
Car trouble and an overly-ambitious schedule during the day thwarted my efforts to actually watch Game 1. I was stuck on the side of a road waiting for a tow truck to come. And it was difficult, because all I had was radio. Though to be honest, I don't think I could have had the emotional strength to make it through a live viewing of that game.
I would have fallen into despair when Shohei Ohtani got rattled in the second inning, understandbly so while watching Teoscar Hernandez run practice jog routes out in right field rather than bend down and try and stop a ball.
I would have screamed at the television watching Andy Pages flail at the plate for another game, looking totally overmatched.
I would have chewed through t-shirt watching Max Muncy make another fielding error at third base.
And I would have had nothing left in the tank to cheer when the Dodgers showed a level of mettle I did not know or even believe that they had, ultimately prevailing in Game 1, 5-3.
Ohtani not only settled down after that second inning, he didn't allow another run in four more innings of work, shutting the Phillies down (especially their top three formidable bats). And that wasn't easy, given how Philadelphia fans were jeering him all game. Teoscar Hernandez hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the seventh that was totally unlikely given his play this year, but maybe not so given his postseason resume.
Speaking of postseason resumes, Kiké Hernandez, a woeful .203 batter in the 2025 season, is up to his same clutch self: batting .417 with a 1.000 OPS this postseason. His two-RBI double in the sixth put us on the board and created some tension in a game where the Phillies seemed to be rolling. It makes no sense that Kiké is so clutch in October, but so it happens every year.
And even Andy Pages scored a run and had a hit in this one (he's now 1-for-13 in this postseason).
During yesterday's off-day, I watched the condensed game highlights of Game 1, and Rick Monday (on his radio call) was spot-on--Citizens Bank Park turned as silent as a library after Teo's HR. It was amazing.
From the LA Times, "When you can hear a pin drop in the stadium, that’s the ultimate feeling in baseball,” Max Muncy said of the home run. “I felt like the people in the upper deck could hear us cheering in the dugout.”
And so today, we try to steal another game from the Phillies in NLDS Game 2, a game I do plan to watch. Blake Snell was great in 2025 NLWC Game 1 for us, and given Dave Roberts' new "all-starters, all the time" strategic approach and/or necessity (Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow, and Roki Sasaki got 26 of the 27 outs in Game 1), we again will need Snell to go long.
I've mocked Snellzilla for most of this year. It would be great to see him breathe fire in Game 2.

welcome back Saxy. booze helped my stress during game 1
@SAXY...Jenn and I are giggling at the thought of you broken down on the side of road waiting for that damn tow truck!!
MOOKIE!!!!
Thanks guys. It was rough.
Scoreless first here but at least we made Luzardo throw 24 in that inning. My guess is he settles in well though.
When is Pages going to actually do something at the plate
Snellzilla
At least Ohtani finally made contact
Luzardo has indeed settled in. Snell overtakes him with pitch count.
Snellzilla
Freeman looks so far off at the plate.
We really miss Smith. And Muncy.
What the fuck happened to our plate discipline?! We look like idiots up there
revolting at bats by the Dodgers in the 4th
Why are we swinging at the first pitch? Kike and Pages, get your shit together
Pages and Shohei are killing me at the plate. so fucking bad
At least Mookie took some pitches there. Minor victory, I guess?
Betts has the Dodgers' only hit.
Treinen warming up. good lord
Snell cant find the plate
great hustle by Rojas. took one for the team there to end the 6th
freddie doubke after Teo singles. second and third no out for Dodgers. score dammit
Oh my god, we scored.
Kiké comes through again! 1-0 Dodgers!
1-0 LA
im shocked
fucking Pages. fuck
Slappy!!
Slappy!!!
🤣 spank
Ohtani with a sharp RBI single to make it 4-0. Sheehan with a nice 1-2-3 inning. Onto the 8th.
Let me get this straight, Teoscar. You're too slow in G1 to bend down and cut off a single, allowing it to be a triple.
And now you want to stretch a leadoff single into a double?
Come on, dude.
Pages' incompetent fielding is letting the Phillies back in this game.
4-1 LA.
im nor mad. sheehan threw a good pitch and thst was a tight spot for Pages to get the ball.
im nor mad. sheehan threw a good pitch and thst was a tight spot for Pages to get the ball.
shit
settle down, emmet
Sheehan gets out of it! Ks Schwarber and gets Bryce Harper to fly out to CF Justin "I'm not Andy Pages" Dean. Wow.
Sheehan pitched out of his jam. encouraging
Shohei K gives the Phillies fans some life. Not good.
4-1 LA, mid-9.
3 more outs
Treinen in for the ninth, and immediately gives up a single.
This lead is not gonna hold.
Here we go......
And he gives up a double. And now we're fucked, as we have to have Treinen face Castellanos. This is not going to work.
fucking Treinen. fucking Roberts
Treinen's first three pitches to Castellanos are all 85mph. That's very hittable
Dammit Blake Treinen, you are AWFUL
Get Roki's ass in there now
We're going to lose this game in the bottom of the ninth. This is horrible.
FUCKING BULLPEN!!!!!!!
Infinite ERA for Blake there. Way to go, Treinen.
unnecessary
Treinen still sucks GAH
just Roberts being Roberts playing his favorites and not the logical choice
FC for the first out. Here's Bader, PH for Marsh.
Bader has been hot
@spank: I agree, we should have gone to Roki there.
They're gonna steal on Vesia as well
Or maybe not, if Vesia walks him. 2-0...now 2-1.
Bader singles. Here's Kepler, who tripled earlier this game.
We are 2-for-10 with RISP this game. Pathetic.
First and third, two outs.
Sasaki in. This is not a good situation.
Trea Turner is the NL batting champ this year. Gulp
come on Roki!!
WIN!!!
WIN BABY!!!!!!!!
Yay! I had the gamecast on at the end. It was stressful lol
oh shit fuck
Holy smokes. I'm a wreck.
heart attack
We cannot, simply cannot, have anyone else pitch the ninth in a save situation, besides Sasaki.
Rick Monday: Teams that go up 2-0 in a best-of-five series, on the road, are 31-3.
