Game 1 in Atlanta today was a crazy back-and-forth brawl at the end there, with lead changes every half-inning until the Mets prevailed, 8-7. That put the Braves on the backfoot in a must-win Game 2...in which the Braves prevailed, 3-0, to punch their own ticket to the 2024 postseason.
The Diamondbacks miss out on the playoffs, a year after making the World Series. They have a reasonable squawk about potential collusion between the two NL East rivals playing today, but Arizona still lost four of its last six, which was preceded by coughing up a 8-0 lead to lose 10-9 to the Brewers.
So now, the Braves--who didn't hurl Chris Sale in Game 2, due to back spasms--fly back across the country for a game against the Padres tomorrow (5.30p first pitch). All three games play at San Diego, on successive days. Really hoping for this series to go to a third game, with the winner playing the Dodgers starting on Saturday @ the Stadium. But we'll get to that Wild Card series tomorrow.

RIP Charlie Hustle. You truly belong in Cooperstown and will be missed.
Something that really bothers me is that when Bart Giamatti banned Pete Rose from the HOF and the game in general he remarked it had to be done to preserve the integrity of the game. Yet "integrity" was nowhere to be found when the Cheaters were allowed to keep their 2017 World Series spoils. I have been angry with this since it happened and am glad to finally comment on it. RIP Pete. You played our American Pastime with more heart than most.
I'm torn on Pete Rose. Not only did he violate the fundamental "no betting" and integrity clauses of the game, he was also unrepentant afterward despite multiple back-channel efforts to get him reinstated. It is unfortunate to not have the all-time MLB hit leader in the HoF, but his lack of character makes it understandable.
As for the Cheaters, I'm with you, karen. Screw all of them.
