Series Thread (Games 80-82): June 24-26 @ D'backs

Greinke, constipated

Mon 6.24 6.30p: Clayton Kershaw vs. Greinke
Tue 6.25 6.30p: TBD Ross Stripling vs. Ray
Wed 6.26 12.30p: TBD Tony Gonsolin vs. Clarke

The Dodgers' pitching rotation has some holes, with Rich Hill's forearm keeping him out until at least August, not to mention workload concerns for Clayton Kershaw, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Walker Buehler. Luckily, the Dodgers' power bats from unlikely sources have kept our winning momentum alive. And we start this roadtrip in the Arizona desert, against a 39-40 team that has only won three of its last seven games.

Speaking of pitchers, remember Zack Greinke, Monday's starter and former Dodger? Well, here's how things have gone since Zack departed us for warmer climates: Zack Greinke with the Dodgers (three years): 51-15, 2.30 ERA, 156 ERA+. Greinke with the Diamondbacks (four years): 53-28, 3.44 ERA, 130 ERA+. Maybe that's the natural decline of a pitch in his 16th year. Or maybe it's the desert air getting to Zack.

And since we just announced Wednesday's starter, triple-A call-up Tony Gonsolin, here's Sting sort of singing a song about his name.

Not so sure Greinke or Kershaw are constipated.
Shit's LITERALLY flying everywhere.

A pitching duel it ain't

Both teams score three runs in the first, and then Greinke homers in the bottom of the second. It's 4-3 AZ through two.

Muncy just GIDPd to end a two-on threat in the top of the third.

Dodgers tie it at four, but waste a shitload of opportunities for more.

And now Dylan Floro has shit the bed here in B8

Four runs across in the bottom of the eighth for Arizona. Dodgers down 8-4

Steve Sax said...

Not a good outcome. Dodgers lose, 8-5. Dylan Floro takes the loss: 0.2 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 K.

Dodgers got the lead late in this one, and it's 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth with two out. Carson Kelly has an eight-pitch AB and Nick Ahmed is on second...

Kelly grounds out to catcher Will Smith, who throws to first for the third out! Sounds like he check swung, and Smith threw him out.

Robbie Ray was dealing at the beginning of this game--I think the Dodgers had only one hit through the first five--so getting a win with us serving Chicken Strips on the mound was huge.

Shoot this one is already under way. Dodgers didn't score in the top of the first, and the Snakes have second and third with none out in the bottom of the third.

Pederson 1B
Verdugo CF
Beaty LF
Bellinger RF
Muncy 3B
Taylor SS
Hernandez 2B
Martin C
Gonsolin P

Fielding error by Joc Pederson at first base, allowing the Diamondbacks to score the first run.

At some point, this Joc Pederson at first experiment had better achieve some positive yield.

Steve Sax said...

Gonsolin just got roped for a three-run HR. Still none out. 4-0 AZ in the first.

Steve Sax said...

Now it's 8-2 AZ. Ugh ugh ugh

Steve Sax said...

8-2 AZ, B7

And we go down with a whimper, 8-2.
