Mark McGwire Joining Dodgers???

From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

Mark McGwire, who has served as Cardinals hitting coach for three seasons under two managers, has informed the club that he intends to accept a similar position with the Los Angeles Dodgers, sources familiar with the situation told the Post-Dispatch this afternoon.

Though a deal between the Dodgers and McGwire is not considered final, McGwire has told the Cardinals that he does not anticipate accepting their offer of a contract extension. [...]

McGwire is leaning toward accepting the position with Dodgers manager Don Mattingly's staff because of geography. McGwire and his family live in Orange County and McGwire has long emphasized the role his wife and children play in career decisions.

Wow. Big Mac + (Kemp/A-Gon/Hanley/Ethier) = more runs? Wow.

Wait...Kemp divided by A minus Gon divided by Hanley divided by Ethier?

Yes, like one of those Russian nesting dolls.

That's on 2014's promo schedule.

Am I the only one who read that as porno schedule?

Please don't let this precipitate a Tony LaRussa comes-out-of-retirement-to-join-Mac-in-LA story.

Nesting dolls would be something like:

Uribe->Lasorda->Scioscia->A-Gon->Dee Gordon

Please let this precipitate an Adam Kennedy retires story.

Let's hope this doesn't make some hack journalist try to accuse Kemp/Hanley/Ethier or anyone of taking steroids.

Hack journalists? There are none of those in LA.

If the Cardinals didn't get crap for it, especially with Pujols in the line-up, I don't see why the Dodgers should. Still, I can't believe the guy is embraced while Bonds is ostracized, I can't stand either of them.

wow - I never thought of Mac as a good hitter and I never though the Cards teams of the last few years would be good hitting teams based on the talent they had, but they proved me wrong year after year. I reallllly hope that had something to do with Mac.

I wonder if he doesn't get along with Matheny

Cliff, i'm sure it has something to do with the fact that McGwire was always portrayed as a good-natured, friendly "All-American" type, whereas Bonds acted like a raging asshole whenever he could.

that said, i'm looking forward to this. there's NO WAY he could be worse than Hansen

The hiring of McGwire could be a great one for the Dodgers. If the offense steps it up so that (for the most part) Matt Kemp and AJ Ellis don't have to do it all by themselves, the Dodgers can not only start out 2013 in 1st but stay there.
