Scoreboard Watching (Sept 21, 2011): Pirates @ Snakes, 12.40p

PIT Ross Ohlendorf (1-2, 6.82) vs. ARI Wade Miley (3-2, 4.24).

Dana Eveland's nightmare takes the mound for the Pirates against the Diamondbacks, who with a win this afternoon could drop the Giants' tragic number to 2 going into tonight's LA-SF matchup (with Eveland going for the Dodgers, no less).

Though the Snakes are the far better team, Ohlendorf is coming in with a head of steam after hitting his first major league HR in his last start. So, do you think you can make Miley sigh, Ross?

Scoreboard Watching (Sept 19, 2011): Pirates @ D'backs, 6.40p

Ian Kennedy (19-4, 2.99) vs. Charlie Morton (9-10, 3.81).

Kennedy chases his 20th win and an outside position at the NL Cy Young Award, while the D'backs try and close their magic number to four by salting away a victory at home tonight. I suppose I should feel bad for the Pirates, outscored 28-4 in their last three games against the Dodgers (and outscored 30-10 in the series), but hey--when it rains, it pours; right, Morton?

Go Snakes!

Talk About Morning Baseball

How awesome is this: I'm drinking my morning coffee at work, and there's Tigers @ Indians already in progress (top 1, no score). With Justin Verlander pitching for the Tigers, no less! Cool.

We've also got Orioles @ Yankees and Rangers @ Rays coming up at 10a PT.

Scoreboard Watching: NL West Games Of Note (August 25, 2011)

Dodgers are idle today but we can still keep track of the NL West race. Arizona has a two-game lead in the standings, but Baseball Prospectus' Playoff Odds still has the Giants with a 67.3% chance of making the playoffs, with the Diamondbacks at 32.6% (the Dodgers are at 0.1%).

First up is ARI @ WAS, with newly-promoted Wade Miley (0-1, 11.25) getting the start for the Snakes. Yeah, that's the way to fight down the stretch of a pennant race. Miley Cyrus will face John Lannan (8-9, 3.61). First pitch, 4p PT.

Later tonight is HOU @ SF; Giants start Ryan Vogelsong (10-3, 2.47). Astros counter, if you can call it that, with Henry Sosa (0-2, 6.35), on whom the Giants batted around in a prior start. Yeah, I hope Arizona can win today. First pitch, 7.15p PT.

Scoreboard Watching: August 4

Man, these Dodgers off-days are a real bummer, especially without an off-day puzzle to keep us occupied. May as well keep an eye out for PHI @ SF (7.15p first pitch), which features Cliff Lee vs. Ashley Bumgarner. The Giants have a one-game divisional lead over idle Arizona, but have lost six of their last 10. The Phillies are riding a six-game winning streak and have opened up a crazy eight-game lead over Atlanta, who leads the wild card race by 2.5 games. As much as it pains me to say it, let's go, Phillies!

Scoreboard Watching: June 23, 2011

The Dodgers are idle today, so why not spend lunchtime watching Twins @ Giants, where Tim Lincecum faces Brian Duensing? Let's hope Madison Bumgarner talked with Timmah last night to give him some pointers on how to best pitch to the Twins. And, tell him to wash his hair. A Twins victory would move us only 6.5 GB the second-place Giants!

Meanwhile, Seattle at Washington is a game of attrition in which neither team can score, going into the eighth inning ad I type this out. Yawn. Kinda reminds me of a Dodgers game, actually.
