We can boo Machado, but he's so good, it's a matter of time before he goes off.

Blake Snell (3-1, 1.80) vs. Yu Darvish (2-3, 5.97).

Sounds familiar: home team comes into a three-game series one game behind in the standings, with a visiting rival squad that has something to prove. And though this worked out well for the Dodgers last weekend, the Dodgers' pathetic series split in Denver against the Rockies demonstrates that we are far from firing on all cylinders (not to mention, Teoscar Hernandez' defense in right field sometimes looks like he's up on cinder blocks in the driveway).

And don't get me started on why the hell Michael Conforto keeps playing (he is 0-for-his-last-13 and sports a .186 batting average and .612 OPS this year, with 63 hits on the year and 93 Ks). We keep trotting out lineups like this, and we're expecting to lose.

Game 128 Thread: August 21 @ Rockies, 12n

Kershaw vs. Dollander.

The best we can hope for is a series split with the Rockies. But there's a good chance that we lose our one-game lead in the NL West and enter this weekend's series at Petco Park tied with a very hungry Padres team. I don't like the sound of this, not at all.

Ohtani vs. Gordon.

Continuing with the Two-Face theme, the Dodgers have split the first two games of this series so far, with one really bad loss folowed by one really good romp. I have no idea which team will show up tonight in Denver. Hopefully at least Teoscar Hernandez will have some wheels.

The Dodgers seem to be back to their ways of letting games slip away late, like last night's debacle in Denver. Thankfully, the Padres lost at home as well, but we can't rely on that to keep our divisional lead.

Which Dodgers team is going to show up here in Denver? The one that got swept in not one series, but BOTH series, to a Anaheim Angels team with a losing record? Or the one that just swept the San Diego Padres this past weekend, allowing the Dodgers to re-ascend back into first place in the division?

We actually have a chance to sweep the Padres? No way I thought that was possible. Clearly, we're working in an alternate universe here.

Blake Snell vs. Dylan Cease.

We're tied up in the NL West, after yesterday's white-knuckle 3-2 win over the Padres. Clayton Kershaw was gutty...something I haven't seen much of with Blake Snell, especially if he lasts into a third time through the lineup. Can Snell (or Snell-glazer David Vassegh) shut me up?

Game 122 Thread: Aug 15 vs. Padres, 7p

Clayton Kershaw vs. some Padre who will undoubtedly have the game of his life.

The Dodgers are now in second place, looking up at the Padres, thanks to a woeful run since the All-Star Break juxtaposed with a peaking San Diego team (8-2 over their last ten). With our loss Wednesday, yet another game in which we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and got season-swept by the lowly Angels, the Dodgers look completely hopeless in the bullpen and mostly impotent from the plate.

Reinforcements aren't coming in these last ~40 games. Either we step up, or we're done.

Game 121 Thread: Aug 13 @ Angels, 6.30p

Ohtani vs. Hendricks.

This is the sixth and final game against the Angels, and the Dodgers haven't won one yet. As a result of this and other incompetencies, they are now tied for first place in the NL West thanks to the surging Padres (7-3 in their last 10). And we look hopeless against these very inspired and angry Angels. Hendricks for the sweep.

Game 119 Thread: Aug 11 @ Angels, 6.30p

Apparently, the Angels' Strike Force is not their offensive lineup.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto (10-7, 2.51) vs. José Soriano (7-9, 4.01).

The Angels, the fourth-worst team in the American League, get a chance for some crosstown payback to motivate what is otherwise another lost season in Anaheim. This three-game series in Anaheim precedes a stretch where the Dodgers will play six of ten games against the Padres, who are only two games back of the Dodgers and nipping at our heels. Can we stop the Angels from lighting up the halo?

Game 118 Thread: Aug 10 vs. Blue Jays, 1p

Glasnow vs. Lauer.

The Blue Jays must be a little sad, having dropped the first two games of the series vs. Los Angeles. And we surprisingly look...pretty good, especially with Max Muncy's return to action lengthening the lineup and providing more potency than we had in July. The Padres won in extras yesterday, so the lead is still a scant three games; we need a sweep today, Tyler!

Game 117 Thread: Aug 8 vs. Blue Jays, 6p

Blake Snell (1-1, 3.21) vs. Chris Bassitt (11-5, 4.12).

The road doesn't get any easier for the Dodgers, up against the best team in the AL East. Chris Bassitt is in the top 30 strikeouts for MLB in 2025. Now who's a good boy?

Game 116 Thread: Aug 8 vs. Blue Jays, 7p

Avert your eyes, or you'll be banished to L.A. Law!

Clayton Kershaw (217 wins, lifetime) vs. Max Scherzer (218 wins, lifetime).

It's a clash of MLB win titans today, with Clayton Kershaw and former Dodger Max Scherzer dueling it out on the mound. On the all-time leaderboard, Scherzer has the edge on IP (2919 to 2808) and strikeouts (3,451 / 11th place to 3,010 / 20th place), but Scherzer is also three years older than Kershaw.

The bigger issue here, though, is that the AL East-leading Blue Jays (68-48) are hot, while the NL West-leading Dodgers (66-49) are most decidedly not. As we dropped two of three to the mediocre Cardinals earlier this week, the Blue Jays were scoring 45 runs in their series against Colorado. I'm not hopeful.

Emmet Sheehan (2-2, 3.60) vs. Miles "Morales" Mikolas (6-8, 4.83).

My Spidey-Sense is tingling for tonight's matchup, and not just because of last night's heartbreaking 3-2 loss, showcasing a surprisingly decent start from Tyler Glasnow and disappointing innings from Anthony Banda and Brock Stewart. We got another relief pitcher at the deadline, and he did not deliver last night. Sigh.

Game 113 Thread: August 4 vs. Cardinals, 7p

Forecast is for Gray skies tonight in Los Angeles.

Tyler Glasnow (1-1, 3.38) vs. Sonny Gray (10-5. 4.38).

Finally, a game at a reasonable evening timeslot! And this time we face Sonny Gray and a Cardinals team whose .500 record (56-57) following a better-than-expected first half of the season ultimately made them a seller at the trade deadline (dealing Ryan Helsley, Phil Maton, and Steven Matz for prospects). It would be nice if we could take advantage of this and expand our divisional lead over the Padres by more than three games.

I don't know what is more unusual about this game: the 10a Saturday start time (to avoid Florida's afternoon thunderstorms), or the fact that we have a guy taking the mound who has disappointingly sat on the bench most of this season.

Get ready for more David Vassegh glazing.
