Shohei Ohtani (0-1, 4.60) vs. Nick Lodolo (8-6, 3.05).
29 games to go, and it's still not comfortable: a one-game lead on the Padres in the NL West, and a half-game deficit to the Phillies for the #2 slot in the playoffs (which would allow the Dodgers to skip the first round).
We're throwing the leading candidate for NL MVP, Shohei Ohtani, out there this evening. But his last outing, in Colorado on August 20, was clearly Ohtani's worst start of the year: 4.0 IP, 9 H and 5 ER, with only 3 Ks. There's no hiding tonight, Shohei (not even behind a tube of Advanced Repair Facial Moisturizer!).

I'm watching the Padres @ Mariners game. Yu Darvish is on the mound for SD, and Eugenio Suarez just hit a one-out single to left.
0-0, B2
Suarez steals second. Still one out, Polanco at the plate.
RBI double scores Suarez.
1-0 Mariners through 2 full
Darvish just blew Randy Arozarena away on a K. Wow.
Raleigh pops to first to end the third inning.
1-0 SEA through three full.
Suarez three-run HR (42) puts the Mariners up 4-0. But the Padres are threatening here in the fifth.
Woo gest Fermin to K for the second out. Now here's Tatis.
Tatis flies to right.
4-0 Mariners, mid-5
Darvish gone after 4.0 IP, with only 69 pitches! Alek Jacob is on the mound.
Mike Shildt is really overworking this Padres bullpen. I don't know, man.
Padres get on the board with a Gavin Sheets RBI single up the middle off of Bryan Woo. 4-1 Mariners, T6. Padres have two on and two out.
Mariners falling apart here. Gabe Speier hits Cronenworth on his first pitch to notch another run for San Diego. Bases loaded, two out, Mariners up 4-2.
Still 4-2, T8 in Seattle. Boegarts just fouled one off his left ankle. That looked like it hurt.
Boegarts is back at his AB, and Bazardo freezes him for a called strike 3. Two out, T8.
4-2 Seattle, mid-8
Arraez grounds to short for the first out.
Cronenworth hits an excuse me ball for a double that just misses being a HR. He's on second, Padres down by a pair. One out.
Tatis doubles Cronenworth in, and then steals third, but Laureano makes the final out.
Mariners win. Padres lose.
Freddie out with a stiff neck, should be back in lineup Friday.

Thursday: watching the Braves take a 3-0 lead on Aaron Nola and the Phillies in the top of the first inning. The Dodgers (idle today) are a half-game up on the Phillies and 5.5 games behind the Brewers for the top playoff spot.
Braves try a stupid double steal and get thrown out at home for the third out.
3-0 ATL, mid-1.
And, that botched double-steal gave the Phillies momentum in the first. They storm back to take a 5-3 lead. Yay.
