Game 62 Thread: June 7 vs. Cubs, 1p

Derek Lowe (3-5, 4.17) vs. Carlos Zambrano (8-1, 2.51).

COMMENTS: Things are not great between Los Angeles and Boston right now, but we're willing to overlook that to bring Derek Lowe some warm and fuzzy moments from his past. Why? According to Dodgers.com:

For the second time in three starts, Derek Lowe will be matched up against Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano in a nationally-televised contest.

Bummer of a birthmark, Hal. What's worse, the Dodgers almost won that last game against Big Z. Do the Dodgers have a chance against Zambrano today? If Hiroki Kuroda can throw a complete-game shutout, why not?

Hey Orel, thanks for catching the early start time today. Good news; I think I'm going Sunday with the fam' (5p start).

Richard Lewis announcing the Dodgers' lineup. It was about as funny as you'd expect.

Anonymous said...

Tim McCarver calling the 23 on Lowe's uniform "letters." I'm switching to radio.

Anonymous said...

The 5-second delay is unbearable. Back to TV.

Anonymous said...

1-2-3 for Lowe w/2 K's! The pitchers' duel is on!

karina said...

this game looks promising! (i'm watching on TV)

karina said...

Didn't you love that catch by DeWitt?

Anonymous said...

JP hit it hard on the ground but Ramirez makes a nice diving play to complement DeWitt's barehanded grab in the top of the first.

Anonymous said...

Loved it, Karina. DeWitt's acting like a veteran on offense and defense.

Anonymous said...

Jeff Kent says eject this with a single up the middle!

Anonymous said...

Cubs have 27 wins from their starters. Dodgers have 15 from their top 4.

Anonymous said...

McCarver just said "Fukudomo."

Anonymous said...

Kent with the rare glove-only backhand flip for the force at second! Lowe's getting groundball outs—this is good.

Erin said...

Hey guys, and Karina. I'm in my room, but my girlfriend will not allow me to turn on the television to watch the game. Yes, I am whipped.

karina said...

Pitcher's duel at Chavez Ravine?

karina said...

i meant pitchers' duel!

Anonymous said...

"Chin-ling Hu"

Anonymous said...

Robothal contends Kemp, Ethier and Loney are coming along slowly.

Anonymous said...

Ha ha, Erin! Promise her a romantic dinner. Or beg shamelessly. Works for me.

karina said...

Dodgers season has been mediocre (so far) but i really think it could have been way worse without DeWitt efforts.

karina said...

Promise you'll compensate, Erin.

Rowr!

karina said...

nice bunt, Pierre! (with a slight help of luck)

Anonymous said...

JP bunts, Zambrano throws wildly to Lee, JP collides with Lee, ball does into the OF but JP doesn't advance because of the collision. Both players are unhurt.

Anonymous said...

Ethier with a dunker into left! Men on 1st & 2nd, 1 out!

Anonymous said...

Ugh, Kent hits into the 3-6-1 DP.

karina said...

I'm loving this game, great defense!

Anonymous said...

Good thing Loney has a long wingspan, because he's been reaching for a few catches today.

Anonymous said...

Lowe cruising—49 pitches through 4.

Anonymous said...

Martin with an excuse-me bunt single!

Anonymous said...

And steals second! Why don't guys slide feet-first anymore?

Anonymous said...

Way too many Cubs fans at Dodger Stadium. Cubs lead 1-0.

Erin said...

I think at this point in the relationship, with the girlfriend putting up with four years of me watching baseball daily (though she may now be an even bigger fan than I am), she's allowed to say no on one of her few days off. So I'll be grudgingly accept it. Time to shop! Off we go!

Go Dodgers!

karina said...

Derek Lowe was pitching a no-hitter. Now this gane gets exciting because a one run lead is enough for Zambrano, what would the Dodgers do?

karina said...

I think what Erin said means to be in love.

Erin said...

Yes, I do know that "begrudgingly" is one word. I don't know what happened there.

karina said...

and Cubs fans complain about Soriano's defense. What would they say about Pierre's defense?

Anonymous said...

Soriano HR to deep center. 2-0 Cubs. Keep it together, Lowe.

Anonymous said...

Kemp misses the diving catch in shallow center and pounds the turf in frustration!

Anonymous said...

Karina, you are a keen observer of the human condition.

karina said...

He has a reason to be mad, since he did the hardest part: reach the ball in shallow center field but i think he needs to talk to someone to control his emotions.

Anonymous said...

I can relate to his frustration, but you gotta hold it in during the game. Makes you look weak.

karina said...

Those outbursts might keep him from showing the talent he actually has.

Anonymous said...

Exactly. Look at us‐we're talking about his fight, breaking his bat and temper tantrum instead of his production.

Anonymous said...

Dodgers get another questionable call at first. Kent on.

Anonymous said...

RUSSELL MARTIN TIES IT UP!

karina said...

How can't you possibly love Russell Martin?

HR! making his case to the All-Star game!

Anonymous said...

Lowe gets some rare late-inning run support.

Anonymous said...

Kemp with the broken-bat bloop single to left.

karina said...

See Kemp, that's the only thing i want to see of you!

Anonymous said...

Kemp steals but not a good idea; if he had been CS, Hu leads off the next inning.

karina said...

this team needs to take extreme measures with the hitting, the real trouble with the team this season.

It's not for lack of talent, we have 5 great hitters starting everyday but they need to address hitting with runners in scoring position.

karina said...

If Pierre had caught that ball, i'd be pleasantly surprised.

Anonymous said...

Lowe coughs up the lead with a few hits just inches from the Dodger gloves. 3-2 Cubs.

Great commercial with Lou Piniella!

JP singles with one out.

Anonymous said...

If we can't hit with RISP, we can use the other team's errors! Ramirez throws it away, JP scores! 3-3 tie!

karina said...

stole second base, a bad throw and the game is tied!

Anonymous said...

Kent first-pitch swinging, pops out. Ethier stays at second.

Anonymous said...

C'mon Russell, give Lowe the lead!

Anonymous said...

Both defenses are diving all over the place! Fukudome can't come up with the ball! 4-3 Dodgers!

karina said...

that's my son!

Anonymous said...

Loney singles! Men on 1st & 3rd! Love the two-out scoring!

karina said...

King James with a single!

Anonymous said...

I can't believe they're leaving Big Z in.

Anonymous said...

Zambrano @ 107 pitches.

MATT KEMP 3-RUN HR! ALL IS FORGIVEN! 7-3 DODGERS!!!

Anonymous said...

Oh man we could really use this win.

karina said...

that's the player we all want to watch!

Right, Orel. Everything is forgiven!

way to go, Bison!

karina said...

Orel, are you ready for some fashion police?

Anonymous said...

And Fox shows Big Z taking it out on the Gatorade coolers! See, Kemp? That's how you do it!

Anonymous said...

Yes, Karin! Who are we policing?

Steve Sax said...

Thsi seventh-inning rally all started with the error. At that point, I was like, "with this offense, I'll take it."

The youngsters deserve credit for building momentum and batting professionally when we had the Cubs on the ropes. Wow!

karina said...

James Loney is wearing the most stylish sunglasses i've ever seen on a baseball player.
Only if he hit less GIDPs and more with RISP, *sigh*.
But as a fashionista, he is a perfect 10.

karina said...

The youngsters have showed power and defense on this game!

karina said...

The passion of Big Z is the reason why he's one of my favorite players. If Kemp wants to be a player like that, he should take notes then :)

Anonymous said...

Big Z kept it in the dugout. It would have been better if he kept it in the clubhouse.

Anonymous said...

I hadn't noticed James' shades. I'll keep an eye out.

Anonymous said...

Saito in for the non-save situation.

karina said...

Obviously he enjoys the attentionderived from his tantrums, Ozzie Guillen-style.

karina said...

attention-derived, i meant.

karina said...

This was a very pleasant game, let's go blue!

as always, it was such a pleasure to share, Orel.

Anonymous said...

Likewise, Karin! See you next game (can't believe we could win this series)!
