Game 13 Thread: April 14 vs. Pirates, 7p

Hiroki Kuroda (1-1) vs. Zach Duke (0-0).

COMMENTS: So the Dodgers have won two series and lost two series, leaving them 5-7 and four games off the NL West lead (luckily, we're only three games out of the wild card with 150 to play). James Loney's marvelous 12-game hitting streak and Rafael Furcal's hot start have been overshadowed (literally) by Andruw Jones and his .100 average (4-for-40). What's more, Joe Torre keeps starting Juan Pierre at Matt Kemp's expense, for reasons unfathomable by any sense of logic. Can the woeful Pirates (6-6 on the year) provide a tonic for the boys in blue?

UPDATE:

The lineup:

Furcal, SS
Ethier, LF
Kemp, RF
Kent, 2B
Loney, 1B
Martin, C
Jones, CF
DeWitt, 3B
Kuroda, P

If 6-6 is woeful, what does that make 5-7?

OK, matt time to shine.

If all of those illogical starts last week were designed to showcase his skills for trade purposes, it makes "Free Juan Pierre" take on a whole new meaning...

Steve Sax said...

No Pierre? I smell a win tonight.

Love this lineup!

They're playing Oakenfold's "Ready Steady Go" to fire up the crowd.

It's slightly better than "Never Gonna Give You Up."

Kuroda 1-2-3!

Anonymous said...

Sax, are you at the game?

Ronny Turiaf threw out the first pitch!

Kuroda down early. This is new for him.

The ushers in the section behind home plate really shouldn't let people go to their seats before a pitch.

Russell's waking up! Seeing-eye single, to 2nd on a balk, to 3rd on a PB, Andruw drives him in. Baby steps.

Did Vin just call Kuroda "Pierogi"?

Anonymous said...

Kent is slower than molasses.

Kuroda's not having much luck today. Lucky to be down by only 1.

Andruw triples! Could you feel the vibrations?

Erin said...

Orel, are we talking the vibrations of the crowd or the vibrations caused by Jones lumbering around the basepaths?

Kuroda with the RBI! 2-2 tie.

Anonymous said...

Erin, the latter. I think those Cal Tech seismologists were scrambling.

Duke with 68 pitches through 4 1/3 innings. Kuroda on 2nd and Raffy walked. We must take advantage of this opportunity!

2-0 count to Ethier. I think Andre swings here.

Sure enough, pop-out to CF.

And Kemp grounds out. Can't believe we didn't score more there. But at least we're tied, maybe Kuroda can relax a little now. But just a little.

Kuroda's not sharp today. Nady RBI makes it 3-2 Pirates.

Even the fly-ball outs are being tagged.

Is that Bennett? WTH is Martin? I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue.

Kent doubles...baaarrreeely! I think I could hear his creaking joints from here. Just imagine if he and Andruw were running at the same time!

Loney, with the RBI single, has hit in 13 straight. Love that sweet swing.

DeWITT deMAN! 4-3 Blue!

I believe this puts Kuroda in line for the win? Chickens before they hatch, I know.

Broxton looks tough! He could do great things this year.

Steve Sax said...

Brox had a great eighth.

No, I'm not at tonight's game. No Suite, No Service.

Steve Sax said...

Dammit, Saito blows the save in a huge way. 6-4 Bucs, going to the bottom of the ninth against the top of our order.

Alex Cora said...

WTF!!!! Dammit we were ahead in the 9th and now down by 2. We cannot lose to the bucs!

Well that fucking blows chunks. One out away from a much-needed victory and instead we're 5-8.

Steve Sax said...

We are flying off the tracks before the season even starts. Dodgers now 5-8, and everything is falling apart.
