Dodger Bloggers Get Close Call With Disaster Scenario

AJ, turning the other cheek (not by his own design)

According to ESPN, Ned Colletti tried to pull yet another former San Francisco Giant into the fold, but luckily A.J. Pierzynski opted to return to the Chicago White Sox instead of joining the Dodgers, who came "tantalizingly close" to landing the malcontented mask-wearer.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Los Angeles Dodgers came tantalizingly close to signing free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski to a one-year contract before the Chicago White Sox added a second year to their offer, resulting in Pierzynski accepting a two-year, $8 million deal to remain with the White Sox.

A source with knowledge of the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the Dodgers were close to a deal last week that would have paid Pierzynski in excess of $4 million to join the Dodgers as the deadline neared for offering a contract to catcher Russell Martin.

Pierzynski confirmed to ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine that people had no idea how close he was to bolting the White Sox before they offered two years. [...]

Pierzynski played for San Francisco in 2004, when Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti was the Giants' assistant GM.

This news is a relief of course for Dodger bloggers, who shudder at the thought of having to spell this guy's last name throughout the 2011 season. As if Doug Mientkiewicz in 2009 wasn't penance enough. Thank you, ChiSox!

And at some point, this whole poaching-from-Giants-I-knew-in-a-prior-life thing has to end for Colletti, right? The players he knew while Assistant GM in San Francisco have to start retiring, limiting future moves? Maybe? Please?

He's a decent enough player (especially if for just a few hundred thousand more than Barajas), but seems like a complete and total asshole. I never watch PaleHoser baseball but whenever I see him, he's being a jagoff in one way or another. So I am glad this never happened. I would have had a hard time cheering for him

Mad props on using the word jagoff, FB. That's something I haven't heard since leaving Pittsburgh a couple of years ago.

Catherine Bell was pretty disappointed to hear Jagoff, but at least she found a home with Army Wives.

So Gonzo is finally a BoTox. Only room for one Adrian on the club.

I shudder that they were willing to pay him 4 mil but wouldn't pay Russ 5 mil.
